Some of us grew up without our memories, waking up in a drawer in a morgue. Others wandered the streets of Seattle as Gator Shaman. Either way, it’s been a very long time since we got a true Shadowrun game. The team at Harebrained Schemes agree and they took their plan to Kickstarter. The world joined in their fight for a good Shadowrun game, funded the game with crowdsourcing, and in just six days, we’ll finally get to go back to the dystopic world of Deckers, Shamans, Orcs, and Elves. Welcome to Shadowrun Returns. This morning we have a launch trailer for the RPG as we prepare for the launch on PC, Mac, iOS, and Android platforms on July 25th, and at a later date for Linux. Let’s get our cyberpunk on with this nibble on the game and her setting:
The year is 2054. Magic has returned to the world, awakening powerful creatures of myth and legend. Technology merges with flesh and consciousness. Elves, trolls, orks and dwarves walk among us, while ruthless corporations bleed the world dry. You are a shadowrunner – a mercenary living on the fringes of society, in the shadows of massive corporate arcologies, surviving day-by-day on skill and instinct alone. When the powerful or the desperate need a job done, you get it done… by any means necessary.
The unique cyberpunk-meets-fantasy world of Shadowrun has gained a huge cult following since its creation nearly 25 years ago. Now, creator Jordan Weisman returns to the world of Shadowrun, modernizing this classic game setting as a single player, turn-based tactical RPG.
Friends that have managed to go hands-on with the game have had nothing but fantastic things to say about the isometric tactical RPG, so this is an automatic buy. Stay tuned as we work on our own review. Enjoy the launch trailer.
