I loved Shadowgate VR: The mines of Mythrok when it came out on PCVR, and now the game is finally coming to PlayStation VR2. More than a simple port, the game comes with a bunch of fresh upgrades for the new platform that should push the game to the next level. Here's my review for a refresher:
Shadowgate VR: The Mines of Mythrok review — Delve deeply
Once upon a time, long, long ago, videogames had incredibly tough puzzles and there was NO INTERNET! Terrifying, I know. You had to work at puzzles and really bang your head against the walls until you figured them out. One of my favorite games of the NES era (though ultimately

If you need a refresher on the setting, look no further:
This is Shadowgate reborn for VR. A fully immersive first-person journey into the depths of a lost dwarven kingdom, where ancient magic, hidden passageways, and towering guardians test your skill at every turn. Armed with a sorcerer’s wand, an enchanted shield, and the guidance of Odin, your sharp-tongued raven companion, you will uncover forgotten lore and confront dangers that have slept beneath the stone for ages.
The haptics on PSVR2's Sense controllers are awesome, so it's no surprise to see those appear here, but that's not the only thing new for this release:
The PS VR2 version is the most polished and responsive edition of Shadowgate VR to date. The experience now runs at a smooth native 90 Hz, giving every chamber, spell effect, and minecart descent a clarity and immediacy that deepens the sense of presence. Adaptive triggers and detailed Sense controller haptics deliver tactile feedback for spellcasting, shield blocks, and environmental interactions. Eye tracking enhances accuracy and adds a new layer of precision to your elemental magic, while headset rumble punctuates major moments that shake the world around you.
Shadowgate has appeared on PlayStation across multiple generations. The Mines of Mythrok brings that heritage forward, delivering a modern VR adventure built with the spirit of the original series: dangerous, atmospheric, and rich with discovery. Devious puzzles guard forgotten artifacts. Minecarts plunge through twisting tunnels. Elemental magic reshapes the environment. Every corner holds a story.
Shadowgate has always been a world of mystery, magic, and danger. With PS VR2, that world rises again with a level of presence that feels worthy of the legend. The Mines of Mythrok began as a dwarven frontier. On December 9, it becomes your battleground.
The PSVr2 is the only headset that has haptics in the headset itself (that I'm aware of) and to see it used is kinda cool. We won't have to wait very long to try it for ourselves – the game is finally headed our way on December 9th!
