Today, Square Enix revealed a new trailer for the upcoming Dragon Quest VII Reimagined. This trailer showcases an adult Kiefer rejoining the party after ditching leaving early on in the adventure.
This remake adds a new storyline where players return to the Rucker region of the past and reunite with Kiefer. The party sneaks into Rucker Castle at night to help their old pal, though Kiefer won't rejoin the party properly and will fight as an AI companion. As players progress through the game, they may be able to fight alongside Kiefer once again in other areas.

For those unfamiliar, Dragon Quest VII tasks players with restoring the world by collecting fragments of broken stone tablets and returning them to their proper pedestals in the Shrine of Mysteries. Once a pedestal has been restored, The Caretaker (Emma Stannard) will guide the party to a new location in the past. Solving the problem in the stone tablet's destination will cause a chain reaction in the present, including the appearance of new islands ripe for exploration.

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined launches on February 5th, 2026 for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5. For more on all things Dragon Quest, check out our review of Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake above, and stay tuned to GamingTrend.
