Known in Japan as Puyo Puyo eSports, Puyo Puyo Champions ditches the single-player story mode in favor of a more competitive experience with more characters to choose from. The two main multiplayer modes are based on Puyo Puyo 2 and Puyo Puyo Fever.
In addition, the game will feature up to four player battles and 8-player non-concurrent players in a local tournament. It will also feature a strong emphasis on competitive global online matches. While it lacks a single-player story mode, challenge mode is included in the game, encouraging players to earn the highest score that they can. There is not yet word on whether the Lesson Mode added to the physical version of Puyo Puyo eSports in Japan will be available in this version.
Puyo Puyo Champions will be released on May 7th, 2019 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam for $9.99. For more information, visit the official website.
