Pirate themed roguelite dungeon crawl on the tabletop? Yes please.

Big dungeon crawls are not new to the tabletop scene but one that is pirate-themed? Now that is interesting. Dragori Games has announced a new game set in the world of Tanares featuring pirates a roguelite mechanics. Consider me intrigued. [DRAGORI GAMES, October, 3rd] Dragori Games, known for the Kickstarter hits Tanares Adventures and Odalin, announces a brand new game: Tanares Expeditions: Central Sea. The game is currently in preview on Gamefound and is expected to have its campaign launched on November 19th.

Tanares Expeditions: Central Sea is a 1-4 player epic pirate adventure, where players take on the roles of pirate heroes in a fight against an upcoming doom that seeks to drown the world of Tanares in corruption and despair.

It’s a standalone game that blends classic mechanics of dungeon-crawlers with the dynamic of a roguelite. As players progress through the many quests the game offers, heroes grow stronger, allowing them to create combos that have a great impact in how the game unfolds.

“While designing the mechanics and pace of Expeditions, I aimed to capture what fans truly love about Tanares while introducing something fresh and exciting,” explains Alexandre Aboud, lead game designer for Expeditions. “Inspired by the fantastic Slay the Spire, players can expect constant adaptation and growth with the new roguelite-inspired mechanics we’re bringing.”

Leveling-up can happen both during quests and between them, making it very strategic during the gameplay. Combos also play a major role in the game, as it’s a main feature of the Tanares franchise, appraised by fans. What it means is, even when it’s not your turn, you still can actively engage in combat enhancing the attack of your partners on their turn.

So far, Dragori announced four new heroes for Expeditions, with much more to come. It is a standalone game, which means that no player needs to have other Tanares games to enjoy 100% of this game.

The World of Tanares

Tanares is a high-fantasy franchise by Dragori. It all started in 2018, with the first board game of the company: Arena: The Contest. This first game was focused on PvP arenas, also featuring a Cooperative mode with one-shot adventures and an epic campaign set in the world of Tanares.

Then came Tanares Adventures, which expanded the lore with an extensive cooperative PvE dungeon crawler. It boasts over 160 hours of gameplay, filled with unique quests, multiple heroes, dynamic combat, and puzzles.

The journey continued with Tanares RPG, a tabletop role-playing game based entirely on 5e rules and featuring contributions from industry legends, like Ed Greenwood and Skip Williams.The game has a new campaign, mixing elements of eldritch horror with the high fantasy setting already known in the Tanares series.

In all the Tanares franchise, players can expect to encounter a blend of political intrigue and sinister plots, packed with challenges, social interactions, and formidable foes.
