Sony has announced that online play will be free for all PlayStation 4 owners this weekend.
Typically, it requires a PlayStation Plus subscription to play online on the PS4 (though PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita require no subscription), but from Friday, September 26 at 12:01am Pacific through Sunday, September 28 at 11:59pm Pacific, online play will be open to all who own Sony’s latest console regardless of their subscription status.
Sony stealth-announced that a Plus subscription would be required to play online on PlayStation 4 during its E3 press conference last year. This was a departure from the company’s previous policy on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita that allowed all users to play online for free.
