Koei Tecmo and developer Team NINJA have announced that the first DLC for Nioh 3, titled Hell Rising, will launch on August 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. The expansion transports you to the Keian era with new weapons, Martial Arts, Ninjutsu, Guardian Spirits, Soul Cores, and more. A new action-packed trailer offers a first look at the setting, and to celebrate the announcement, the Digital Deluxe edition is currently 23% off on PlayStation Store and Steam, while the Standard edition is 36% off on Steam for a limited time.
Hell Rising takes you to Edo in 1651, a castle town thrown into chaos following the death of the future shogun, Takechiyo. Alongside one-eyed swordsman Yagyu Jubei and Spanish envoy Rodrigo, you will unravel new mysteries surrounding the Spirit Stones in the pursuit of restoring peace. The DLC introduces a brand-new open-field map. New weapons include the hoko and shield, available in both Samurai and Ninja Styles, blending defensive play with the offense of a short spear and tactical options like flinging the shield at enemies.
Hell Rising also adds the Hundred Demon Realms Picture Scroll, a new equipment category dropped as rare loot. To equip a Scroll, you must first triumph in an automatically generated battle tied to it, and these fights can be replayed to reroll one of the Scroll's effects and further customize its power. A brand-new extreme difficulty mode, the Enlightened One's Journey, is also on the way for third-playthrough veterans, layering random Curse buffs onto enemies that make them significantly deadlier but reward you with divine-rarity items. Rounding out the DLC are new divine-rarity Grace set bonuses and powerful special effects that let you push your character builds even further.
