The upcoming Command & Conquer Generals 2 has had its title and price truncated – it can now be simply called Command & Conquer . You can also play it for free. Announced this morning at Gamescom, the game will launch in 2013 using the free-to-play model along with a new online platform where the entire compendium of C&C games will eventually be accessible starting with the first Generals , Red Alert and Tiberium . The rest will be rolled out over time.
“We are thrilled about this opportunity to transform Command & Conquer into a premier online experience,” said Jon Van Caneghem, VP/GM at EA. “For nearly two decades, this franchise has existed as something you buy; now we are creating a destination where our fans will be able to access the entire Command & Conquer universe, starting with Generals and continuing with Red Alert, Tiberium and beyond. With Frostbite 2, we are able to keep an emphasis on the AAA quality our consumers expect while staying true to the RTS gameplay they know and love – all available online for free.”
The latest Command & Conquer uses the same graphics engine as Battlefield 3 , Frostbite 2, and will receive downloadable content based on community feedback. The game is exlusive to PC.
