It's not something you'd think can be done, but if you have a Chromatic, you can get a brand new mode in your Tetris game from ModRetro

ModRetro and Tetris combine to update a Tetris Gameboy cartridge with new Battle Mode

ModRetro has packed in a copy of Tetris with their Chromatics for a while now. Something I never thought would ever happen, however, was getting a new mode for my cartridge. Through the magic of ModRetro and their Firmware updater, a new Battle Mode is going to be available! This is super cool, and another reason ModRetro has the best retro platform. Check out the details below, along with how to do it on your Chromatic!

Every ModRetro Chromatic has come with Tetris® for Chromatic since day one. On Tuesday, August 19th, we’re taking that experience to the next level with a new feature: Battle Mode.

Battle Mode lets players go head-to-head over a link cable, sending garbage lines back and forth in fast-paced, competitive matches.

Every Chromatic owner will get Battle Mode free as an update to the same physical ModRetro Tetris® cartridge they already own, powered by our Cart Clinic, the first tool of its kind that can patch and update ModRetro cartridges right from your Chromatic. Just pop in your game, head to the Cart Clinic tab, and let it work its magic.

Here’s how to get the Tetris® Battle Mode Update:

  • Download the ModRetro Firmware Updater on your PC or Mac
  • Insert your Tetris® for Chromatic cartridge into your Chromatic handheld
  • Connect your Chromatic to your computer via USB
  • Launch the updater tool and go to the Cart Clinic tab
  • Click “Check” and follow the prompts to install the Battle Mode update
  • Connect with a friend using a link cable, and start battling!
