CI Games has released a new episode of its ongoing developer roundtable series, 'Lifting the Veil,' offering a deeper look at the upcoming Lords of the Fallen II. The episode unpacks the action-packed 'Battle for Thorngar' trailer first shown at Summer Game Fest, surfacing details you may have missed and confirming that the game will launch on Steam this fall alongside its previously announced platforms.
The team pulled back the curtain on new biomes, including a Japanese-inspired realm called Yisugen. The new episode includes more than two minutes of fresh gameplay, headlined by the first major look at the katana weapon class and three intense boss encounters. The katana brings sleek, tactical animations and a faster, more intimate combat rhythm while preserving the visceral feel the series is known for.
Independent developer, CI Games, today released a brand-new episode of its ongoing developer roundtable series ‘Lifting the Veil,’ where key members of the Lords of the Fallen II team explore the world and development of the game in greater detail. The latest episode dives headfirst into the action-packed new ‘Battle for Thorngar’ trailer that CI Games revealed at Summer Game Fest and uncovers details and insights players might not have noticed. In addition to confirming that Lords of the Fallen II is set to release on Steam alongside previously confirmed platforms this fall, the new episode also features the dev team discussing new biomes players will explore, like the Japanese-inspired realm of Yisugen and more.
The new Lifting the Veil episode includes more than two minutes of brand new gameplay footage, including a first major look at the katana weapon class and three pulse-pounding boss fights. Through a mix of sleek animation and tactical strikes, the katana weapon class makes fights more intimate and fast-paced than ever before, while retaining Lords of the Fallen II’s signature visceral feel.
Lifting the Veil also shines a light on how CI Games is continuing its close partnership with Epic to capitalize on the incredible strengths of Unreal Engine 5 and its impressive Nanite and Lumen technologies to create evocative worlds full of life. Further incorporating community feedback, the dev team discusses improvements made to Lords of the Fallen II’s Umbral realm already in-progress after the last Lifting the Veil episode launched.
“That feedback that then pushes us to go back and forth and back and forth and go into that really granular detail, but then to look at what that feedback can essentially achieve,” said Game Director James Lowe. “We know that the Umbral could be much more alive, but then, at the end, it's the world of the dead for us. So it's trying to find the right balance, visually speaking, about what is dead, what is on decomposition, what is on rotting, what's trying to find that formula.”
Other discussion highlights include:
Immense replayability: Dynamic Umbral realm encounters mean no journey into the world of the undead is the same. Shared co-op gameplay between players means you don’t have to face every enemy alone, with CI Games listening closely to community feedback to implement the best and most-requested improvements and added content.
Build Your Best Lampbearer: Wide-ranging build flexibility means players can create the Lampbearer of their dreams, with numerous weapon classes, combat styles, armor, and character design options available.
Multiple endings determined by the player’s actions and choices as Lampbearer, shaping the fate of Axiom and Umbral together.
Bosses Both Beautiful and Horrifying: The team chats about the Scion, the many-limbed angelic boss that will challenge players with her offputting wings made of countless severed arms.
