There are confirmed layoffs of around 100 employees at the Zynga offices in Austin, and unconfirmed reports of simultaneous layoffs at the Chicago and Boston development offices. This affects many of Zynga’s game properties and the people responsible for developing them.
Zynga Austin’s game The Ville and a new IP are both “done,” according to an affected employee speaking to Gamasutra anonymously. Consumer video game blog Joystiq reports that its sources say that the studio’s Zynga Bingo team is gone as well.
Whether you love or hate Zynga games, it’s always unfortunate when a large number of developers are suddenly out of work. Thanks to Gamasutra and Joystiq for the heads up.
