If The Witcher 2 doesn’t close out 2011 with a raft of RPG of the Year awards, I’ll eat Iorveth’s shortclothes. He’s just one of the remarkably canny, morally murky denizens of CD Projekt RED’s gritty RPG, and if you haven’t yet made his acquaintance, there’s no better time than the release of this latest patch.
Key improvements in the 1.3 Update include:
- Game now supports 4:3, 5:4, and 16:10 aspect ratios.
- Item storage has been added. Players can now store items from their Inventory at inns. To leave items in storage or collect previously stored items, talk to innkeepers.
- A ‘Junk’ panel has been added to the Inventory to provide greater clarity in item classification.
- A new menu option has been added under ‘Extras’ – this enables players to view in-game animated sequences (flashbacks, memory flashes, dreams stolen by harpies) outside of the game.
- ‘Dragon’ section of Prologue does not become available until after all assault-related sections have been completed, thereby softening the difficulty curve at the start of the game.
The Witcher 2 scored a whopping 92% here at GamingTrend, with cumbersome inventory management and an uneven difficulty curve highlighted as notable shortcomings. Having played through the game twice myself, the changes listed above will go a long way towards fixing both issues, especially the ability to store crafting materials at local inns.
A free DLC quest is also included: “A Sackful of Fluff” reveals the inhabitant of the previously deserted cabin outside Vergen in Chapter 2, with the patch notes hinting that his story will best reward the patient.
You can find the complete changelog at The Witcher 2′s official site, while the patch itself can be found through the game’s main launcher or as an automatic update via Steam, Direct2Drive, or Good Old Games.
