Keep on portaling – Splitgate to remain in open beta while developers increase server capacity and update game

Splitgate has taken the world by storm after its rework and re-release into open beta, and now 1047 Games has announced that the game will remain in open beta for the foreseeable future as they continue to scale up the game to accommodate its massive player base.

Since the game’s massive increase in popularity, the team has worked to increase the initial capacity of 4,000 concurrent players to more than 175,000 in the course of a few weeks. The studio has a number of content updates slated for the rest of the year, including the introduction of a ranked duos mode and increased server capacity.

1047 Games has also teased a “significant announcement” planned for gamescom 2021. “I’m proud of what our team has accomplished – but there’s a lot more to come,” said Ian Proulx, CEO and co-founder of 1047 Games.

Proulx continued, “We want to do this the right way, and we want to be prepared for massive scale when we officially launch.”

So far, Splitgate is an absolute blast, and it is easily the most fun I have had in gaming for the past year or so. If you are curious about Splitgate, or if you think Halo mixed with Portal sounds fun, I encourage you to go check the game out as it is free and will remain so as long as it is in open beta.
