Just when America needs it most, Devolver Digital announces Metal Wolf Chaos XD

Following days of cautious speculation and jokes that everyone was secretly hoping were true, Devolver Digital has announced a re-release of Metal Wolf Chaos. Originally released in 2004, the game has a reputation as the most over-the-top paean to America ever in video game form, despite being released only in Japan. Devolver Digital’s update to the aggressively patriotic mech shooter promises a host of improvements.

Meticulously updated visuals with improvements to resolution, select textures, and visuals effects that are brought to life in a new widescreen format with 1080p and 4K support, where applicable. Gameplay improvements, a new save system, and optimization deliver the definitive Metal Wolf Chaos experience.

The announcement came at the end of a characteristically bonkers press conference, followed by a gory homage to Paul Verhoeven that continued a story line from the publisher’s 2017 E3 conference. If you missed the conference, rest assured that seeing it wouldn’t make that sentence make any more sense. The important part is that Metal Wolf Chaos XD will launch this year on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

A committed indoor kid, Bryan moved from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles for a prettier landscape to ignore. They can be lured outside with promises of taco trucks and film festivals, and enjoy trawling through used book stores for works on the occult. Bryan has been gaming since the SNES era and is a sucker for good pixel art.
