It should come as no surprise that the company that practically invented 360 degree camera capture would have a few more aces up their sleeves. To that end, they're adding a new tool to their newest panoramic capture, transforming the Insta360 X6 into an explorable 3D scene with a fresh feature – Spatial Capture.
As part of the launch of their flagship store in Times Square, Insta360 unveiled this newest feature for the X6 that transforms the camera into one that can record in 360 degrees, transforming what were previously just panoramic videos into fully realized spaces that you can explore. Spherical capture isn't a new feature, but this will enable users to preserve precious moments from literally any angle. If you're using a VR headset, you can re-explore these spaces virtually, but even on a phone you can virtually "walk" them for yourself.
If you're currently on the hunt for a new house, it's very likely you've seen a stitched version of this being used to allow the user to walk through a home one screen at a time. This would be a huge departure from that, allowing them to step through every inch of the space as if they were there. If you've ever looked at a picture and wished you could effectively step just a touch to the left or right, you can do exactly that.
Currently, Spatial Capture supports up to two minutes of video, and you can still use the trimming functions of the Insta360 App to slim it down (or let AI make suggestions on your best scenes) to get it under that two minute mark.
While the initial deployment will be for the Insta360 X6, the team is also bringing this functionality to the X5 and X4 Air as well. Since the processing takes place in the cloud, you get four per month for free.
Visitors can try Spatial Capture on X6 at Insta360's first North American flagship store, which opened on September 19th at 1515 Broadway in Times Square, New York City, or you can try it out for yourself on the official Insta360 App!
