Indiana Jones and the Great Circle launches on Xbox Series X|S, Game Pass and PC on December 9. Early access starts on December 6. Pre-order it now and learn more about early access, pre-order bonuses and all versions of the game here.
A Bold, Beautiful World to Explore
MachineGames is known for their attention to detail when crafting environments, and the world you’ll see in The Great Circle is no exception. Architecture, vehicles, clothing, even the music drifting through city streets. It’s all the result of careful research and an eye for the little things. Every single element comes together to create a living, breathing world for you to traverse.
As Audio Director Pete Ward explains in the video, each environment is specifically designed to encourage you to look around. Do some digging, just like the legendary archaeologist himself. As you explore, you’ll uncover clues about your journey and the world around you. All these clues and insights will be tracked in your journal, which you can refer back to at any time.
In addition to the more linear, mission focused areas, you’ll be able to fully explore several larger, open regions in the game. Here you can track down side missions, meet the people of this world, and unlock new mysteries. You might even find yourself in an underground fight club, where you can compete for a little extra spending money.
Completing missions – both main story missions and optional objectives – won’t just further your hunt for the truth. You’ll also earn Adventure Points, which you can use to upgrade Indy’s abilities. Unlock new abilities to upgrade by finding Adventure Books scattered throughout the world. Take the “Lucky Hat” ability from the video, for example. Unlocking Lucky Hat will give you a second chance to get on your feet if you’re knocked out.
Hidden Mysteries
Mystery is at the heart of every Indiana Jones story, and through the many puzzles scattered throughout the game you’ll reveal exciting new clues about the Great Circle and the adventure Indy finds himself on. And if you find yourself stuck, whip out your camera for some fresh insight and maybe even an important clue. Whether it’s puzzles along the main path, or hidden enigmas for you to seek out, there are many benefits to donning your thinking fedora and unlocking their secrets.
“Every puzzle is designed to fit seamlessly into the world,” Ward explains. “From smaller puzzles hiding forbidden secrets to epic obstacles leading to greater mysteries.”
Geared Up for Adventure
“The game is designed around the charm and resourcefulness of our hero,” says Ward.
And you’ll have the adventurer’s arsenal at your disposal: Indy’s fedora and revolver, and of course, the iconic whip. The whip will be your best friend on this journey. It’s vital not only to traversing the world, but also to combat, because not every fight needs to be won with a bullet. Sometimes the smartest, most Indy option is to use your whip and fists to avoid noisy conflict.
And sometimes it might even be best to avoid combat altogether, sneaking your way around guard patrols with clever distractions or a well-timed whip swing over their heads. You’ll also have the use of disguises at points throughout the game, allowing you to slip through enemy areas unnoticed, provided you don’t draw any unwanted attention.
