How do you make a real-time strategy game that covers conflicts ranging from ancient Gaul to the British Isles and keeps it all manageable? If Longbow Games’ previous game Hegemony Gold: Wars of Ancient Greece is any indication. the answer is “elegantly.” Diplomacy, supply line support, and settlement management were very simple systems individually, but the way they interacted to influence tactical battles across the whole of Greece made for one of the most charming independent strategy titles of the last year. The clean, attractive art style helped a lot too, and now we’ve got an advance look at how the updated graphics engine is treating the sequel!
Hegemony Rome: Rise of Caesar is currently scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2012. In the meantime, its predecessor Hegemony Gold has a free demo available through the developer’s main site.
