As a player of Hades II since the day it came out on Early Access, I have been a die-hard fan of every update and patch they’ve released as I witnessed the sculpting of another Indie classic.

So, when version 1.0 finally came around and Hades 2 hit full release, I was clambering for the ending after spending over 50 hours in-game knowing it was unattainable.

However, just days after it released reactions began to crop up of the true ending, and it’s safe to say that fans were not happy with what they got.

We are staying clear of spoilers of anything to do with Hades 2’s ending as the game hasn’t been out for very long, but the recent arrival of Patch 1 preview for Steam players is another wave Supergiant Games has created that we need to talk about.

Supergiant has always been a studio that is incredibly receptive to player’s feedback as despite Hades resounding success, they still chose to put Hades II in Early Access for over a year so they could attend to player feedback through not only core updates, but through many hotfixes.

But, never have I seen a studio go to the extent they have in trying to rectify the ending of a game because fans weren’t happy with it.

At the moment, Patch 1 preview is only for Steam players but includes your visual bug fixes but also major altercations to the base game. The patch states that its also a work-in progress with ‘content that may evolve’, so there’s no release date in sight for console players.

• True Ending Enhancements: Added new events in the lead-up to the True Ending, and some after. As part of this, increased the number of Underworld clears required, and added to and revised parts of the main True Ending scenes before the end credits. Note: The vast majority of changes are to the Underworld route; the Surface route is mostly unchanged.

• Returning to a Real Possibility: Added Cauldron incantation lets you return to an earlier point in the story in case you wish to re-experience key events, such as the True Ending.

• Fated Prophecy Adjustments: A number of character-related Prophecies, including the one connected to the story epilogue, should unfold faster than before.

• Crossroads Renewal: Many decorative items have reduced costs in Kudos compared to before. Any excess Kudos you have already spent will be refunded.

My surprise only extended when I saw that I could go back and experience these changes through an in-game incantation even though I had already completed the game. I just had to delve in, and to my absolute delight, those issues that I and many others had have been patched over.

The ending itself hasn’t changed, the core story elements are here to stay, but through new story moments and revamped dialogue the reasoning for the ending becomes a lot easier to digest and understand.

The missing pieces that fans had wondered where had gone have been filled in nicely with no due part to the talent of the team behind Hades II.

The speed of this altercation does make me wonder if this had been planned all along, but who can say. Despite, my own qualms with the ending I think fans need to realize their privilege in what Supergiant Games have done for us. But just a brief glimpse of BlueSky makes me smile when I see fans rush to praise and hail the team as Gods themselves.
