Game Sapiens (CEO Lee Dong-ryul) announced its participation in the “2024 PlayX4 B2B” event from May 23rd (Thursday) to 26th (Sunday) at KINTEX in Ilsan.
Game Sapiens is a one-person enterprise led by game writer Lee Dong-ryul, utilizing board games as a source for multi-use, producing offline publications, and developing online game portals. Founded in 2006, it has received numerous prestigious awards in the gaming content field in South Korea. With strengths in card games and two-player games, it possesses over a hundred types of board games, including the “Roman Empire Playing Card” (winner of the Recreation Competition Grand Prize, Industrial Association Competition Grand Prize, and Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Minister’s Award), capable of playing over 50 original games with just a deck of 54 cards. It has been responsible for publishing 18 games among them.
The company’s main business areas include publishing over 20 types of offline games and game accessories and developing online game portals. Lee Dong-ryul, as the representative, has produced over a dozen products, such as “EXDOUS, SPYCODE, WORDCUBE,” achieving domestic success. Primarily focusing on planning and developing digital products, it seeks B2B partnerships for its offline endeavors. Digital investments have shown a fair amount of investment, totaling around 5 billion KRW.
At this exhibition, Game Sapiens will introduce “Amuse Portal,” a game portal platform offering over 140 original board games for free and paid services. Each game possesses well-structured marketing points, with the representative emphasizing that it represents the highest level of completeness among games of its genre and type.
In particular, the platform’s features include high profitability suitable for one-source multi-use, easy business operations and growth, items ideal for export due to low cultural barriers or easy localization, minimal system resource consumption in digital implementation, appropriate playtime without real-life burdens, high level of intellectual satisfaction, a wide range of gaming experiences, additional revenue streams beyond gaming through B2B and B2C, and the potential to become a leading game portal service with minimal investment after initial capital injection.
Representative Lee Dong-ryul explained, “As the content capable of one-source multi-use, many contents can significantly contribute to the traditional offline publishing market. Each of Game Sapiens’ contents has unique business and marketing characteristics.”
He stated, “The target countries for digital game portals are all countries worldwide with basic internet environments. It is a service that can be enjoyed with minimal digital resources, making it applicable to people of all ages beyond toddlers.” He emphasized that it is an intellectual content service with a wide spectrum of potential. No special partners are needed for countries that can be entered directly, and partners are only required for countries where direct entry is not possible under special circumstances.
The representative, Lee Dong-ryul, emphasized the potential for global market expansion within a few years after the service launch with only initial capital in the digital market. Regarding the offline market, he plans to proceed in the direction of licensing Game Sapiens’ excellent games to capable publishers, following the business logic of the traditional board game market.
The ‘2024 PlayX4 B2B,’ hosted by Gyeonggi Content Agency and KINTEX, is themed ‘More Than Just the Joy of Gaming’ and features exhibitions and experiences of new games from Korean and international game companies. Visitors can enjoy side programs like the retro game market, esports competitions, and cosplay events.
