EA Acquires PopCap for $650M + Stock

It’s official–EA has finalized its acquisition of PopCap Games for a whopping $650 million + $100 million in EA stock.

“EA and PopCap are a compelling combination,” said EA CEO John Riccitiello. “PopCap’s great studio talent and powerful IP add to EA’s momentum and accelerate our drive towards a $1 billion digital business. EA’s global studio and publishing network will help PopCap rapidly expand their business to more digital devices, more countries, and more channels.”

This is down from the earlier rumors of a $1 billion pricetag, but it’s still nothing to scoff at.  Recently EA has been letting its subsidiaries manage themselves, but we’ll see what changes accompany the buyout.
