Don’t Expect Live-Action Cutscenes in C&C: Generals 2

Last week I reported that the upcoming Command & Conquer: Generals 2 , in development at Bioware, was going to be a free-to-play title. When a game goes F2P, typically it means that admission into the park is free, but some of the rides (particularly the good ones) are going to cost you. In this case, there just isn’t any single player component to the game – regardless of whether you choose to fork over money or not.

PC Gamer spoke to a general manager at Bioware who revealed the game will never include a single-player campaign and will instead focus solely on the multiplayer experience. The idea is to “…get back to the roots of what made Command & Conquer  great.” Ironically enough, as someone who has been enjoying the series since the very first game developed by Westwood Studios, it’s the single-player content that I remember so fondly.

Admittedly, Red Alert  was one of my first online multiplayer experiences. Back when we were all on dial-up and I had to dial my friend’s modem directly, I used to stay up until 3-4AM on the weekends spending as much time trying to connect as playing the actual game.

I don’t mean to sound dismissive of Generals 2  because of it’s focus on multiplayer, I’ll most certainly give the game a fair chance. But I’m willing to bet there’s a very large number of fans who will be disappointed by the lack of cheesy live-action cutscenes.
