I’m no fortune teller, and I don’t possess any abilities that allow me to read into the future, but when I saw Diablo 3 at BlizzCon last year I knew the game wasn’t coming out in 2011. Not that it appeared in poor form or anything, rather, it sounded clear to me from listening to the devs talk about the game that they still had a lot to figure out.
With the beta officially launching this week, Blizzard has announced this morning that the beta will be extended and the official release date for Diablo 3 will be early 2012.
“With every game we make, the temptation is always very strong to launch as soon as possible. However, we didn’t put so many years of work into Diablo III to release a game that was almost ready,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “The beta test is going very well, and we look forward to making the most of the extra time we’re taking to deliver an experience that lives up to our vision for the game and the expectations of our players. Next year is going to be an incredibly busy one for Blizzard, and we hope an incredibly fun one for Blizzard gamers.”
We’ve been playing the hell out of the beta (pun!!) and thus far we’ve recorded a massive amount of footage that we’ll be releasing over the course of the week, which has already begun with videos of our Demon Hunter run.
