If you were invested in your character in the Destiny beta, Bungie’s got some bad news for you, as the studio has confirmed that characters made and nurtured throughout the beta won’t be making their way to the full game when it comes out.
As part of Bungie’s latest weekly update, Destiny designer Tyson Green explained that since the game has changed in so many small ways since the beta, certain ways characters level up and types of equipment found in the game have changed to a point where they are no longer compatible with the final product.
“Since the Beta, we’ve continued to tune and adjust the game. The way you earn experience has been adjusted up and down a bunch of times. Items have been added and removed. New features toggled. Although there’s no single monumental change, the sum of the tweaks leaves characters from the Beta Build in strange shape that would be confusing at best, broken at worst.”
Destiny is slated for release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360 on September 9th. For more on Bungie’s follow-up to Halo, check out the Gaming Trend staff’s impressions of the games recently concluded beta.
