Wizards of the Coast is returning to its roots by bringing back some of the biggest names in D&D history. Amid the Gen Con hustle, our own Steven Starkey has compressed the announcements into bite sized tidbits:
Stating that their goal is to “bring everybody back to the table,” the upcoming releases span the gamut from new books, including adventures and roleplaying supplements, to D&D Beyond, and even minis. These efforts include partnering with Blizzard to add the World of Warcraft setting into D&D, bringing in publishing partners to support a more robust publication schedule, and teaming up with luminaries from D&D’s past and present.
Those iconic and influential creators from D&D’s history will be featured in an initiative called “Icons”. These creators will work on new stories in classic settings with the goal of teaming these legendary creators with the current design team for future content. They will be launching with Luke Gygax working on Greyhawk content with input from some of Gary Gygax’s unreleased notes, under the creative direction of Joe Mangeniello. Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman will return to the Dragonlance setting and R.A. Salvatore will be handling Drizzt Do’Urden again.
