As the gaming world continues to expand, so too does the call for more industry events. Outside of massive conventions such as E3, PAX, the GDC, and so on, there are a multitude of conventions focused on a specific game or the efforts of a single developer. QuakeCon and BlizzCon are the most prominent, and now the behemoth Call of Duty franchise is getting it’s own convention treatment in what Activision is calling the Call of Duty XP 2011.
Taking place in a 12-acre compound in urban Los Angeles, Call of Duty XP 2011 will invite over 6,000 fans to witness the world premier of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer. Of course, that’s just the beginning – Attendees will be among the first to get some hands-on time with the multiplayer and the new Spec Ops survival co-op mode, as well as their first glimpse of the new Call of Duty Elite online service.
“From the high production values of our live, immersive events – all the way to the smallest details in every design and activity – we’re pulling out all the stops to make Call of Duty XP the ultimate gathering for the global community of Call of Duty fans,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. “The celebration will immerse attendees in a Call of Duty experience unlike anything they’ve ever seen before. Over the course of two days, gamers can trade Call of Duty war stories, experience the official unveiling of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer and the full feature functionality of Call of Duty Elite, as well as enjoy world-class entertainment and compete head-to-head for some serious cash prizes.”
Call of Duty XP 2011 will also feature tournaments and prizes to win, discussion panels and Q&A with the developers, a Call of Duty armory and museum, and more attractions that have yet to be announced. Who knows, Jack Black might even perform!
Tickets for the convention go on sale July 19th for $150, 100% of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to The Call of Duty Endowment, a non-profit corporation for veterans. For more information on the convention, head to the official website.
