Ash and gold mingle in Ashen’s new gameplay footage

Just a two months after we saw Ashen’s E3 gameplay demo, we’re getting another look at Aurora44’s enigmatic open-world adventure. Publisher Annapurna has released a gameplay demo originally shown at Gamescom, which offers a broader look at the game. In the video, we see more of its stamina-based combat and hear again about its passive multiplayer, both of which seem like twists on the familiar Souls-like formula. But the demo also shows plenty of ways that Ashen is carving its own path, including new information on how you’ll upgrade your character and develop your own town.

On top of new features, the demo also shows a lot of gameplay featuring Ashen’s breezy combat and gorgeous environments. While previous videos focused on a forlorn woodland area, this one gives us a glimpse of glittering but desolate city and a valley covered in — you guessed it — ash.

They can be lured outside with promises of taco trucks and film festivals, and enjoy trawling through used book stores for works on the occult. Bryan has been gaming since the SNES era and is a sucker for good pixel art.
