343 already working on Halo 6, knows what’s going to happen “ten years from now”

343 has already began preliminary work on Halo 6, despite the fact that Halo 5: Guardians hasn’t even come out yet.

Speaking in an upcoming Halo 5 edition of Golden Joysticks (via GameRadar) franchise development director Frank O’Conner and 343 head Bonnie Ross explained that the developer is doing “serious real planning” on the next installment of the Halo series, even beginning writing the game.

“So [Ross and I] know at a very high level what’s going to happen in, say, ten years from now,” O’Conner said. “But at that very granular level knowing what’s going to happen in the next game and that’s just been a great feeling for me.”

“You can look at the ending of Halo 4 – and where Master Chief is,” Ross said, “and obviously we had to know where we were going to take Halo 5 and Halo 6 with that. You have an epic sci-fi universe and we have multiple ways that we can go with this story, but all the pieces are laying there. The canvas is there for us to paint.” According to Ross, 343 has began to build a “fictional foundation for the next twenty years” of the series.

Halo 5: Guardians is out October 27th, exclusively on the Xbox One. For more information, check out our “Warzone” multiplayer preview from this year’s E3.
