Recently, GamingTrend had the opportunity to conduct an email interview with Ricky Liao, Game Design Director for Delta Force. Ricky informed us of an upcoming April Fools event, the design philosophy behind the game’s maps, and more!

GamingTrend:
Are there any more events in store for Season 2?

Rickly Liao, Game Design Director:

Absolutely! Just to clarify, we’re currently in Season 3 of Delta Force, and Season 4 is already shaping up nicely. Before the new season kicks off, players can expect map and mini-mode roster changes to keep things fresh and exciting, along with more events designed to make the game feel even more rewarding to play. We’ve also got something fun planned for April Fool’s, but no spoilers just yet! As Season 3 comes to a close, if players want to grab some exclusive skins like the Custom Build weapon skin or Inky Reflections for Hackclaw, now’s the time to act. The weapon skin will return in future seasons, but it will be harder to obtain.

GamingTrend:
What areas of balance is the team focusing on, and what tweaks can players expect in the near future?

Ricky:
We aim to balance all aspects of the game, so no stone is left unturned. For this week, we’re focusing on weapon balancing.

GamingTrend:
Are there any plans to update or change the Derailment and Shafted maps?

Ricky:
We definitely do! Environmental destruction will see further improvements for both maps. We are quite happy with Trainwreck at this moment; Shafted is doing pretty well, but we are planning to expand this map further with more details to be revealed in the future!

GamingTrend:
Is there a core gameplay philosophy behind the Warfare maps, or do each have different goals, or is it a mix of both?

Ricky:
Great question! It’s a bit of both. We have core principles that guide all map designs, such as ensuring a balanced combat density, providing fun covers, and creating structures that support diverse strategies. Since we have class-based Operators in the game, maps must cater to their unique skill sets. However, each map has its own emphasis—some are focused on close quarters combat, while others are designed for full-scale warfare. Depending on the map’s focus, we adjust the design priorities, like placing more cover for close combat or enhancing strategic depth for larger battles.

GamingTrend:
What’s the most popular mode in Warfare?

Ricky:
That would be Cracked, specifically its Attack and Defend mode. It seems the classic Delta Force charm is still as popular as ever!

GamingTrend:
Given the addition of large-scale destruction events in Warfare, will any other maps feature similar events?

Ricky:
I’m glad you enjoyed those destruction events! Yes, we have plans to improve the current map roster, and such large-scale events will definitely be part of those improvements.

GamingTrend:
What can we expect from the upcoming Black Hawk Down campaign?

Ricky:
Black Hawk Down is already live! The best way to experience it is to dive in yourself. It’s a free-to-play co-op campaign that turns players into elite Delta Force operators, allowing them to relive one of the most iconic military operations. What starts as a simple capture mission quickly spirals into an intense extraction challenge. The campaign features a series of missions that test your decision-making and skills to the limit.

Huge thanks to Ricky Liao for taking the time to answer our pressing Delta Force questions, and another huge thanks to Alayna from PR for organizing it. For more on Delta Force, stay tuned to GamingTrend.
