Lag sucks, it’s one of those things high up on the list of what players hate, and reasonably so. When you’re lagging, you’re missing out on cool moments with your friends or falling behind in your comp game. Recently, we got an offer to interview Lucas Stolze, the CEO of ExitLag, and talk about how the company’s software helps gamers fight lag.
GamingTrend:
What’s your name and what do you do?
Lucas Stolze, Exit Lab CEO:
My name is Lucas Stolze and I am the CEO of ExitLag. I hold a BS in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA degree both from Purdue University. My passion for gaming and technology has always driven me to understand how hardware and video games operate. I have always been motivated to problem-solve, particularly when it comes to issues that impact the gaming experience. As CEO, I oversee company operations and help drive growth, ensuring ExitLag continues to innovate and fulfill its mission.
GamingTrend:
What is ExitLag?
Lucas:
ExitLag is a proprietary software developed by gamers for gamers that reduces latency, lag, jitter, ping and packet loss. It utilizes multipath connection technology, which sends data through multiple routes simultaneously to find the best one. If one of the routes becomes unstable, the others will work together to maintain a smooth connection.
Additionally, ExitLag utilizes a traffic shaper which prioritizes sending data through the fastest route available, along with an FPS boost that optimizes PC operating system settings for better performance. Our worldwide server network ensures that gamers globally experience a more stable and consistent connection.
GamingTrend:
What inspired Exitlag's creation?
Lucas:
I have always been passionate about video games and technology, and understanding their inner workings is what excites me most about this industry. ExitLag was created to address one of the most common frustrations that every gamer faces: lag. Online gaming requires split-second reactions, and an unreliable connection can significantly diminish the experience. ExitLag embodied a clear vision — to provide gamers with the best possible performance and a reliable connection, no matter where they are in the world.
Nowadays, ExitLag is present in over 190 countries, ensuring our users can continue to enjoy the high-quality connection our founders envisioned when they created ExitLag for their own benefit. Our goal has always been to provide a seamless, enjoyable gaming experience for all players worldwide, making lag essentially obsolete.
GamingTrend:
How does the multi-path connection differ from the standard approach we see in games?
Lucas:
The main difference with this technology is that our software optimizes routing in real time, without interrupting gameplay. While other software solutions offer latency reduction, ExitLag’s proprietary multi-path technology continuously evaluates and adapts, providing a superior experience that embodies the quality of the whole connection and not a fixed and singular approach.
GamingTrend:
Nvidia’s Reflex Mode comes free with their GPUs, how does their latency reduction compare to ExitLag’s? Can gamers benefit from both?
Lucas:
ExitLag’s technology aims to reduce and improve data transmission across the internet. ExitLag focuses on communication between the User and the Game Server, by optimizing data traffic and routing ExitLag making the server receives data faster, thus also returning the response faster to users. On the other hand, Nvidia’s Reflex Mode aims to reduce system latency (also called input lag) and avoid interference from the system and not data. This method focuses on the delay between player actions and screen response due to the system processing information. (Nothing related to internet or game server, but locally on the PC). Gamers can definitely benefit from both as they are complementary technologies, with ExitLag improving connection and Nvidia hardware and system.
GamingTrend:
Could players run into trouble with anti-cheat or get punished for using ExitLag?
Lucas:
ExitLag’s software does not result in bans or punishments within games, as it does not alter any game files or applications on your computer. People mistakenly think that you can’t use any third-party application while playing an online game. However, ExitLag works directly with data transportation while keeping users’ data intact, thus it does not need to alter or modify data to do so.
In a nutshell, we are the Amazon Prime of data delivery; Amazon revolutionized shipping by being efficient with logistics and allowing people to get the product they wanted quicker. We are doing the same thing with game data, allowing the servers to receive the data they need, just faster.
GamingTrend:
The ExitLag website says that it’s available for 2000+ games and apps. Given that there’s an ever-growing number of new games and competitive titles, how would a new game join the list?
Lucas:
At ExitLag, we are committed to meeting gamers exactly where they are, ensuring support for the most popular and in-demand games. We are currently developing ExitLag for iOS to expand accessibility. We strive to stay on top of gamers’ needs, but we offer a chat feature that allows them to request new game support directly through their profile. You can check out our full list of supported games here!
Massive thanks to Lucas for taking the time to answer our questions about ExitLag. Another huge thanks goes out to both Alysha and Allie from PR for helping out. Stay tuned to GamingTrend for more tech news!
