When Andrew Valkauskas is asked why his RPG Fate of the Norns: Ragnarok doesn’t use dice, he talks about narrative, and how jarring rolling dice and doing math needlessly disrupt the game. Ragnarok’s rune-based system is not only thematically consistent with the Norse mythology setting, it specifically addresses the narrative of whatever action the player is engaged in. Given how dedicated Valkauskas is to the original lore of Nordic myth (his Illuminated Edda is his own translation of some of the Medieval Scandinavian works), his dedication to narrative is not only not surprising, but particularly appropriate for the theme. Andrew walks through the rune system of the game, and also chats about what the company has is store in the coming months (including a 12th Kickstarter coming soon!).
