We're back to recap a great week of comics we read here at GamingTrend.com! This week we feature three comics from Dark Horse Comics with similar themes with very different styles of writing and artwork. While they're all Superhero content, the worlds are drastically incomparable and each brings a different flavor to the genre. Let's jump into this week's recap!

Jupiter's Legacy: Finale – Issue #1
I really did enjoy watching Jupiter's Legacy on Netflix. I even brought the show up to Matt Lanter when I had the chance to meet him at a convention and I remember he talked about how much he loved doing that show. However, it was one of many shows cancelled in the past 10 years.
Thankfully, comics are still being made and I began reading the comics to at least figure out where the story was heading. Jupiter's Legacy is an intense and brutal look at being a superhero. Not brutal in the same way Invincible or The Boys, it's brutal in its own way.
Jupiter's Legacy: Finale #1 sets the stage for not only a global, but a universe ending event. I won't spoil too much, but it very much reminded me of Mass Effect 3 in the way of preparing for the end of all life as we on Earth are aware of it. If you were a fan of the show or have enjoyed the comic runs, Finale will be a book you'll want to grab.

Jumpscare – Issue #1
Following in the footsteps of stories like Deadpool, Kick-Ass, and the multiple stories of religious trauma is the new comic series called Jumpscare.
Jumpscare is a vigilante with the ability to use any weapon from any horror movie she's watched before. So there will be moments that you'll recognize some iconic weapons. Jumpscare is also extremely popular with most of the residents of Empire City because of the spectacle she makes during the combat. However, not everyone appreciates a good horror movie, especially not her hyper-religious parents.
This story is full of fun eldritch horror / fey creatures, amazing one-liners, and lots and lots of blood.

Black Hammer: Spiral City – Issue #2
Spiral City is the saddest of the three we've talked about today because this story takes place after the big world-ending event for the Super-Folk has already ended. Some of the heroes we see even fought against the big bad evil guy. Yet now, they are villainized by the media and tortured by humanity, especially those with a lower power level.
I really love the characters in this series so far. Many are loveable in different ways, all are broken in many ways as well. The most interesting aspect of this type of story-telling is seeing how our heroes will be impacted by the world. While Insector is the most optimistic, he's also the one that gets beat up the most. Meanwhile, our two other heroes this issue focuses on aren't as optimistic, but nobody is really messing with them due to how powerful they truly are. Sadly though, power doesn't mean people like you or even respect you. Especially during these times.
The artistic choices of mixing the storybook art with the gritty real world REALLY adds so much and allows us the reader to see the fantasy we might see more in a normal superhero comic but then we realize the world is bad.
