TGIF: Gaming Trend’s Weekend Lineup – Easter Edition

Remember when you were a kid and you’d wake up on Easter Sunday to a basket full of delicious candy. You’d then run around your house, tearing it apart like a burglar, looking for cheap plastic eggs filled with even more candy, or better yet, a quarter. Ka-ching! Now imagine a scenario where the eggs are two feet in diameter and solid gold. Sorry, not going to happen. So, instead, why not just take this weekend to play some of your favorite video games. Anything with a bunny in it gets you Easter bonus points. Here’s what the GT Staffers are playing.

Josh Devlin, Reporter

Aside from the usual family festivities on Sunday, I have some major homework to get done as the semester is coming to a close. I’m going to frontload my weekend with the school work, so that I can enjoy the remainder of it with some games carefree. If my friends decide to hop online, I’ll jump into a little Battlefield Hardline multiplayer, otherwise, I’m just going to cozy up with the whimsical Ori and the Blind Forest.

I’ve been covering a few random games here and there, mostly indie titles and things I missed over the last few weeks of big releases. I’ll definitely keep ramming my head into Bloodborne, as  I seem to progress bit by bloody bit every time I boot that game up. I’ll also try and find some time to check out Pillars of Eternity; those Infinity Engine RPGs never grabbed me in the past, but then, I don’t think I gave them much of a chance to, and I like what I’m reading so far about Eternity. I’ve got Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker too, and I’m just starting to breach the additional campaign in that and loving it. Devil Survivor was one of the unsung heroes of the DS’ lifetime, and I’m glad Atlus is giving it some love on the 3DS and a chance for those who missed it the first time around to check it out.

I’ve also started reading the Witcher novels, to get myself acquainted with the greater lore of the Witcher-verse before Wild Hunt comes out. I’m really enjoying them, as everything I like about the games is here in the series, and it makes me realize how faithful CD Projekt Red were to Sapkowski’s series. As Wild Hunt’s release approaches, keep an eye out for a summary I’m going to work up of all the Witcher content that will be relevant in Wild Hunt, as those who’ve only played one or both of the games haven’t seen a large amount of the greater plotlines that will be resolved.

I’m working on the new game Son of Nor for review. I’m going to spend all weekend playing it so be ready for that review around Monday! So far it feels pretty fun, even if the control scheme is a bit frustrating. I’m just wondering whether or not the fun of having telekinesis and terraforming wears off. I guess we’ll see!

In other personal news I recently passed the halfway point in writing my second novel. So if you ever got the chance to check out my first, I hope you’re looking forward to it. I’m having fun writing it, and it was interesting because I had to add two whole chapters I never planned on just because a certain story thread ran longer than I wanted it to. Exciting though!

On December 5, 1986, Josh was born into this world pink-faced and squalling. His only thoughts were, "WHAT IS GOING ON? WHO ARE ALL OF THESE PEOPLE? AND WHY THE HELL AM I NAKED?" 19 years later he bought an Xbox 360 and now plays and writes about video games. Life is funny that way.
