TGIF: Gaming Trend’s Weekend Lineup

It’s Friday, and it’s Memorial Day Weekend, which means a long weekend of barbecuing, spending time with those close to you, and video games. Having that extra day off means you now have no excuse not to beat that backlogged game that’s been collecting dust on your shelf for years, level that High-Elf Ranger to max level, or prestige your FPS avatar 10x over. May has been a solid month for games with unique and interesting titles like Wolfenstein: The New Order and Transistor leading the charge. There a lot of games to play and plenty of time to play them in, so let’s get to it. Here’s what the GT staffers are playing:

I’m still on the fence about getting Transistor. Not because I don’t want it, but because I have a plethora of other games that I already own and are dying to be played. First, I’ll probably catch up on The Walking Dead Season 2 because I said I would the last few weeks, but never got around to it. Then I plan on playing through the Toy Story playset in Disney Infinity that is currently caked in a layer of dust so thick I’m going to need a shovel to dig it out. Lastly, I’m thinking of taking a trip back a couple generations and playing Luigi’s Mansion from start to finish.

Realistically, I’ll end up staring at my game shelf for a half hour, make a list of the games I want to play, get bored, and watch some TV. Gaming for the win!

Wolfenstein is at it again! From a bunch of the dudes and dudettes that brought us Riddick and The Darkness, this latest iteration of the shooter that started it all is going to take up my weekend with its classic style shooting and futuristic Hitler action. The other game I’m playing is Dust: An Elysian Tale. I put a few hours into it last weekend and was taken aback by its beautiful art and tight fighting mechanics, I’m look forward to digging deeper into what’s proving to be one of the most unique games I’ve played in a long time.

Last but not least, I’ll be getting my ass kicked in Hearthstone on my iPad Air in an attempt to build up my lowbie Shaman deck.

I got a long weekend with Monday off so it’s a good time for gaming. I’m probably going to play catch-up and try to beat some of those pesky games that I’ve been stuck on. Still haven’t beaten Tales of Xillia 2 or Persona 4 so that could take a while. My friends and I are also planning some network gaming on the Wii U to get us ready for the Mario Kart release next week. Oh yeah, probably Killing Floor (almost got that gold star for my berserker) and, of course, StarCraft 2. Aaaaaand it’s gone.

I’ve been diving into War Thunder again, trying to skillfully shoot down enemy pilots and ground forces alike. Failing, for the most part, but if failures bothered me I wouldn’t be so into games like Dark Souls and Roguelikes. Regardless, I’ve been up in the air dogfighting, going on bombing runs against enemy targets, and generally enjoying everything the game has to offer – which is considerable, especially given that it’s a free to play game. I haven’t messed around so much with the recent ground force additions in open beta, but as near as I can tell War Thunder is positioning itself as a rival to the World of Tanks (and Warplanes, and…) set of games. A little competition is always a good thing, right?
