TGIF: Gaming Trend’s Weekend Lineup

Between the holiday gaming binge and the March madness that will bring us Titanfall, Dark Souls II, and South Park: The Stick of Truth, February has only a few new game releases–but that doesn’t mean we stop gaming. Some of us might be delving into the highly-anticipated 3DS RPG Bravely Default, while others are taking this time to tackle their ever-growing backlog. Here’s what the GT staff is playing:

Some of my friends have been blabbering about Don’t Starve for weeks now, so I’m going to turn on my PS4 for the first time since launch day and see what all the hubbub is about. In between play sessions, I’m going on a Telltale adventure game…adventure, with The Wolf Among Us: Episode 2 – Smoke and Mirrors and The Walking Dead: Season 2 Episode 1 – All That Remains.

It’s raining here in California which means it’s snowing up in Nevada, so I’ll be taking to the slopes for a weekend of snowboarding. All is not lost, however, as my trusty 3DS will be accompanying me on the four hour (each way) drive and I plan to log even more time into Pokemon Y. I’ve got over 40 hours on the game so far, which is already more time than I’ve ever spent on a portable game before it.

The video game drought that January and February always seem to bring gives me time to go back to the classic games that I’ve been trying to tackle.  This past week in almost every free hour I’ve been playing Gitaroo Man, the PlayStation 2 rhythm game that starts off simple, but gets sadistically hard extremely quickly.  I’ve been stuck on the Sanbone Trio for the past seven years, with a few spent on the other levels as well.  I’ll probably never beat that game, but I usually spend about the first 20 percent of my year trying, and this year I’ve gotten closer than ever.

Sony just released their February PlayStation Plus games for the VITA, PS3, and PS4 so I downloaded them and kissed my weekend goodbye. Last night I started playing OUTLAST and it’s as scary as hell, probably the freakiest thing I’ve experienced since the first time I played Silent Hill. I missed Metro: Last Light, so I downloaded that for the PS3 and I’m looking forward to giving it a spin. Besides that I’m still sinking ships on ACIV: Black Flag, I have a review for the VITA I’m working on and I’ll probably squeeze in a few rounds of StarCraft 2 to keep my mind limber. It’s a good weekend for gaming.

On December 5, 1986, Josh was born into this world pink-faced and squalling. His only thoughts were, "WHAT IS GOING ON? WHO ARE ALL OF THESE PEOPLE? AND WHY THE HELL AM I NAKED?" 19 years later he bought an Xbox 360 and now plays and writes about video games. Life is funny that way.
