Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Well, somebody with a power washer and a big desire to remove the slime off an oddly-placed pineapple at the bottom. At Summer Game Fest we got to go hands-on with an upcoming add-on pack for PowerWash Simulator. Partnered up with Nickelodeon and the team behind SpongeBob Squarepants, the ultimate dad-job simulator PowerWash Simulator is going to give us a whopping six maps full of cleanable space. Just try not to think about the logistics of doing it underwater…
We got to see two out of the six levels, the Conch Street and SpongeBob’s and Patrick’s house and surrounding goodies. Like in the main game, the objectives are simple and relaxing. There’s a green film of grossness on the pineapple – remove it. Using the various nozzles, scaffolding, and tools, you’ll make the whole place livable once again!
Developer FuturLab’s mini-campaign will take us to some of the most iconic locations in the show of the same name. Namely, Conch Street, The Bikini Bottom Bus, The Krusty Krab, The Patty Wagon, The Invisible Boatmobile, and The Mermalair. There’s also a freshly redesigned cleaning suit appropriate for deep see power washing work, as well as exactly the soundtrack you’d expect. If you are into it, there’s also 10 fresh achievements to pick up for your efforts.
Events like Summer Game Fest can be go-go-go non-stop, but being able to take a moment to slow down and spray down a piece of fruit made larger than life is pure relaxation. Sure, it doesn’t make a lick of sense – something a giant air bubble that occasionally floats up will remind you, but that doesn’t stop it from being an oasis in the middle of life’s chaos. Sure, it’s peak Dad-game, but I dare you to try it and not be immediately hooked.
PowerWash Simulator’s SpongeBob SquarePants DLC is headed to Xbox, PlayStation, PC, and Switch on June 29th, 2023 for $7.99, with a smile and a raised eyebrow when I asked about the possibility of this DLC coming to the VR version.
