I got to sit down with the folks from Eidos Montreal to talk about the rapidly approaching prequel, Deus Ex: Human Revolution. In this segment I got to take a look at level design, social interaction, and the evolution of the hacking system in the title, courtesy of the folks responsible for building it.
In the first segment of the video, Frank McCann (Level Designer) JF Champagne (Level Designer) give us a brief look at the design of the levels, as well a look at some of the side quests and multipath solutions you’ll encounter in the game. The second segment is with Frank Lapikas (Senior Game Designer), walking us through the evolution of the hacking minigame and the incredible amount of work that went into it, as well as how social interaction and social ‘boss fights’ occur in the world.
I’d like to thank the folks at Eidos / SquareEnix for the unprecedented access to the design team, as well as this rare peek behind the scenes. Enjoy the video – there will be plenty more coming before my full review of the game on Tuesday!
