Gaming Trend’s Best of 2013 — Genre

It’s that time again, where we hunker down and argue over our favorite gaming experiences of 2013. There was no shortage of amazing games this year, from all sorts of different sources. From indie games made by a team of four people to giant blockbusters of epic proportions, there were surprises to be found in every corner – leading to one of the most varied and interesting game of the year lists in Gaming Trend history.

Our decision making process was simple: the Gaming Trend writers gathered together during a four-hour-long meeting where we fought, cajoled, and bargained to craft the list of nominees. Once this list was locked down, the entire staff voted on their choices for each category, abstaining from those they felt unable to properly decide. Once all votes were received and tallied, our winners were chosen.

And now, without further ado, we present to you Gaming Trend’s 2013 Game of the Year Awards.

I've been gaming since my dad made the bad decision of buying me a Nintendo when I was four years old. Every day I'd find myself with my face glued to a TV screen, punching away at buttons, getting furious with Bowser, Dr. Wily, and those freakin' birds in Ninja Gaiden. Since then I have failed to get my parents to play any board game with me, I sold my full copy of Earthbound with box and guide for $300 to some dude in Austria for rent money, and I still believe in Nintendo even after all these years.
