Gaming Trend gets a new forum

Gaming Trend members,

As you know, we’ve been talking about upgrading the server, rebuilding the front page, and unifying the forums and the front page comments for a (very) long time. Well…I’ve got good news. The server has been upgraded significantly, we are close to launching a rebuilt front page, and we have just converted from our antique forum software to a far more responsive and user friendly forum. As such, the forum you are seeing now will close, and all posts will become locked on Friday 5/26/17.

The new forum has all of the posts minus the last week already ported in, as well as your username and password. (Unfortunately, when you are moving a million posts, you’ve gotta draw the line somewhere.)

The good news is that this means you can log in right away and begin posting any time you’d like. Best of all any front page comments now generates topics in the forums, and you can use your existing account to comment on articles, reviews, previews, or anything else here at Gaming Trend!

The way this works is a new category up top called “Newsfeed”. Whenever we post something on the front page, and someone comments on it, the software will pull that article into the forums and you can continue the conversation right from there. Your comments will appear on the front page at the bottom of the article.

At launch we are still ironing out some issues of formatting and theme, so there’s going to be some adjustments as we go. The theme you’ll see when you arrive is placeholder as we work on a new theme to launch very shortly. Additionally, there’s a better than likely chance you’ll have to reset your password to get in. Unfortunately, porting PMs was not possible, so you’ll need to get whatever data out of them before we shut down the old software on 5/26/17.

Please be patient. It’s an exciting time for us, and we are so very glad to have you be a part of it. I’d also like to extend my personal thanks to the team, and especially Mike Dunn. He has done an incredible amount of work to make this possible, and I owe him a great deal of thanks for all his dedication. All of that said – pardon the dust…it’s time for progress!
