We here at GamingTrend are tried-and-true Turtle Beach enjoyers. Time after time the legendary headset maker has asked us to review their products, and time after time we walk away impressed. To no one’s surprise, thanks to the Turtle Beach Atlas 200, their hot streak continues. The Atlas 200 is the perfect jack of all trades, boasting a sleek design, stellar sound quality, great compatibility, and an excellent microphone all at an agreeable price – what’s better than this?

The model I reviewed, the Atlas 200 Wired PC Headset, comes with the headset itself (complete with a microphone and 3.5mm headphone cord – this bad boy is wired, after all) and a USB Audio Adapter exclusive to the PC version, which allows for audio jack to USB conversion. The adapter is intuitive to use and is super handy as wireless headphones are undoubtedly becoming less and less popular and fewer pieces of hardware include 3.5mm jack compatibility. We’re truly regressing as a society.

As someone who knows a thing or two about good looks, I’m happy to report that the Atlas 200 has a distinctive edge to it. Sleek black plastic and foam make up the majority of the device, with some dark gray accents provided by the adjustable headband. The sturdy, layered design feels like it could survive your average drop from height, house move, or rage-induced slam onto your desk… whatever buoys your barge, man. The bottom line is this thing is built to last, and it’ll look good doing it. However, in a similar fashion to our Turtle Beach Atlas Air wireless review, the positioning of the microphone on the headset isn’t great and can sometimes get in the way while in the upright position.

I feel like I have to unpack my previous statement about the layered headband. The headband serves as an interesting sizing-mechanism that I’ve only seen utilized once before with the Atlas Air. The main part that crowns your head is exactly what it sounds like: an elastic, silicon headband, similar to what you’d use while playing tennis or basketball. This can be pulled like backpack straps for the right fit. I’ve never seen a headset use this for sizing, but now that I’ve seen it in action, it makes a ton of sense. The “layered” piece comes from the top part of the headset: a hard plastic meshed bridge that offers support for your actual noggin once you find the right headband size. These two mechanisms work in tandem to ensure a comfortable fit, and though it’s definitely an unorthodox style, I think it “fits” great! Haha! Ha!

Okay, enough about looks – you aren’t considering buying this as a Thanksgiving centerpiece.  You want to know how it sounds! Unless you are, in which case I should mention I make a mean glazed ham. Put simply, the Atlas 200 outputs some great sound. Though not quite noise canceling, the memory foam ear cushions block out almost all excess noise in the room, letting you concentrate on the sound alone. Everything I threw at it, including loud games, quiet games, movies, music, videos, music videos; it all sounded great. The microphone is also able to pick up voice chatter crisp and clearly with no background noise bleeding in, which is a definite plus.

Since I reviewed the PC/multiplatform version, and am also an undisputed genius, I tested the Atlas 200 on both my PC and PlayStation 5 to make sure all our bases were covered. The sound was ultra crisp and impactful on both platforms, with no static, lag, or cut outs. I should mention that when plugged into the DualSense PS5 controller the audio output was slightly quiet, prompting me to set the Atlas 200 to 100% volume and increase the volume on the game I was playing. But other than that, this headset performed flawlessly.

One of the best things about the Atlas 200 Wired Headset is that it is priced at $69.99 USD. For a headset of this quality and versatility, I think that’s an absolute steal. It should be mentioned that the Atlas 200 also has a licensed PlayStation model (the first ever PS licensed Turtle Beach headset) that comes complete in Black or White with the PlayStation logo and everything. When PlayStation thinks it’s good enough to throw their logo on it, you know you’re in for a treat.

I’m very satisfied with the Atlas 200, and strongly recommend it to those who love a reliable wired headset.
