Lightweight gaming mice have started to pick up popularity in recent years. The days of yore saw experiments like the Microsoft Sidewinder mouse, which allowed the addition of up to 30 grams of weight. Now, the market has swung the other direction. In the world of competitive gaming, speed kills and lighter mice translate to more wins. Enter Logitech, longtime purveyor of fine gaming peripherals, with their Pro X Superlight DEX. While I can’t promise you’ll win more games with it, after a couple weeks of use, I’m comfortable telling you it’s an excellent option.

It feels like the entire market has shifted toward lightweight mice, which makes perfect sense. From a manufacturing perspective, lighter mice use less material and should, theoretically, be less expensive to produce. From the consumer point of view, the less weight I’m having to drag around, the more accurate I can be with less fatigue. I have used lightweight mice from competitors for several years now. To that end, the Pro X Superlight DEX has brought Logitech back into my good graces. This mouse gets a lot right.
First, let’s talk about the weight. The DEX clocks in at 60 grams. This puts it pretty firmly in the middle of the competitive market. The DEX rocks Logitech’s HERO 2 sensor with a resolution capping out at an insane 44,000 DPI, which I imagine would be helpful if you were trying to clip the wings off a gnat from a quarter mile away. I tried that setting for a couple seconds and, well, I think my mouse pointer ended up on the eastern seaboard. It’s an impressive range.

Even more than the DPI, the mouse’s polling rate got an eyebrow raise from me. While the mouse is wired (and charging) it polls at 1000 Hz. No big surprises there. With the use of Logitech’s LIGHTSPEED wireless, though, the mouse’s polling rate climbs drastically to 8000 Hz. In a world where we typically assume data travels quicker through a hard line than over a wireless signal, it’s wild to see an instance where a gaming peripheral isn’t just comparable but dramatically more responsive when it’s wireless.
On top of phenomenal response time, the Pro X Superlight DEX’s battery life boasts an impressive 95 hour run time and, of course, the mouse still works when it’s charging, too. While I can’t speak firsthand to the 95-hour battery life boasted by the mouse’s stat sheet, I can say I’ve been using this mouse for a couple weeks and, impressively, it’s still at 40% battery. I haven’t been turning the mouse off when I’m away from my machine, either.

While I know it’s relatively standard with lightweight gaming mice, the DEX has a fairly pared down featureset, too. It features a 5-button layout with a scroll-wheel and forward/back buttons. Beyond that, there aren’t too many bells or whistles. If you want RGB, this isn’t the mouse for you. Do you like the built-in DPI switch on other gaming mice? That’s not here either. Honestly, it makes perfect sense: the DEX is meant to be fast, accurate, and lightweight with handsome battery life. It was created for beautiful usability, not a showpiece on camera. Don’t take that to mean it’s an ugly piece of hardware - it’s not. The DEX is a handsome mouse with slick, ergonomic design. It just doesn’t have any bright, shiny, unnecessary fluff. This mouse is all business.
What little customization can be done is handled through Logitech’s G Hub software suite. Here, you can monitor the device’s battery life and choose your sensitivity settings (by choosing a built-in preset, grabbing a popular one from online, or creating your own). You can go ahead and choose the setting you want the mouse at or create some sort of shortcut or macro to toggle between multiple settings. As I mentioned in our G515 RAPID TKL review, Logitech’s done an excellent job creating a software suite that lets you get the most out of your hardware. It’s definitely something you should play around with if you have products that can utilize it.

Logitech has put together an excellent product with the Pro X Superlight DEX mouse. I’ve always personally avoided wireless gaming mice due to the fear of input lag or the hassle of needing to charge the battery too often. The DEX has alleviated all those concerns, giving me comfortable, high-performance hardware that promises to be a sharpshooting workhorse for years to come.
