We get lost in Stonemaier’s Expeditions—GAMA Expo 2023 preview
Published:

One of the most hotly anticipated games of the year is Stonemaier Games’ Expeditions, the standalone sequel to Jamey Stegmaier and Jakub Rozalski’s 2016 monster hit, Scythe. While Expeditions shares more than just an aesthetic and narrative with its forebear, it is honestly a quite different experience to Scythe, and elements brought over from that game are more evocative than literal. David walks us through a few sample turns between two players, demonstrating tile exploration, card actions, and mech upgrades (among a few other things). The mechs are big, chonky, and more diverse this time, and since you play as a hero rather than as a faction, you’ll get to choose which metal behemoth aids you on your quest into the unknown. (My favorite was the Viking longship mech).

We’ve been excited for this game since it was announced back in February, and thankfully plans are to have it available for sale at Gen Con this summer, with a Q3 release to LGS’s. You can actually pre-order direct from Stonemaier Games’ site here, in both the standard and the metal mech laden Ironclad Edition.
