In a recent blog post, game developer and publisher Fat Shark unveiled the new game mode, Expeditions, coming to Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. Today, we've got a new trailer ahead of the update's release on March 17th.
Inside Expeditions, you'll team up with other rejects to journey outside the confines of the Tertium Hive to scavenge the wastes and uncover what lurks outside the city. Each run will have your team exploring for Tech-Remnants, using your Auspex Scanner as a map to travel to points of interest and contend with randomized variables.

As you progress, you will gather up scraps to be able to trade with the people living in fortified Sanctuaries between zones for supercharged weaponry like the obliterating Modified Grenade. And once you return to the Hive with Tech-Remnants, you'll be able to unlock new areas and modifiers to keep spicing up your next run.

The world outside the Hive is dangerous, with toxic atmospheres, twisters and lightning storms abound. Enemies will also be drawn to the presence of the rejects, meaning you will have to balance the risk and reward of when to keep fighting and when to call in the Valkyrie to extract with your loot. Die out on the frontier, and you'll come home empty handed.

Expeditions will be a departure from the traditional mission structure of Darktide, opting for more open zones and breaking away from linear objectives. Various sites will have different modifiers, enemies and effects each run, so you can expect some slight changes on every Expedition.
The open terrain will also change enemy engagements, as instead of spawning in waves, they can now be found wandering in groups among the wastes. The new game mode will also feature a new enemy type, the Ogryn Pack Master, who commands a legion of armored Pox Hounds. This will add some tactical strategy, as you may want to pick fights you can win and avoid monsters that may quickly end your run.

Prepare to venture into the untamed lands of Atoma Prime when the 'Beyond the Hive' update launches on March 17th.
