Today, we got a really close look at Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. We were at COD NEXT, and you can watch our livestream of the event below. That said, there's a lot to know, and the Call of Duty Blog provided the best encapsulation of everything you'll have seen so far. Take a look as you prep for beta time.

As the official launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 approaches, Treyarch took the stage at Call of Duty: NEXT to give an in-depth look at Multiplayer, Zombies, and Call of Duty: Warzone. Plus, Call of Duty: Mobile turns 6, the competition heats up with Call of Duty Endowment (C.O.D.E.) Bowl VI and the World Series of Warzone Global Finals is here!

Call of Duty: NEXT Showcase

In the lead up to the November 14 launch of Call of Duty®: Black Ops 7, the Call of Duty: NEXT event gave creators and developers a chance to play the new game and discuss the major features coming to Black Ops 7 Multiplayer and Zombies.

Developers and presenters also dove into new content and changes coming to Call of Duty: Warzone™, including a preview at the upcoming Haven’s Hollow Resurgence map alongside the all-new Signal Station and remastered Factory POIs appearing in Verdansk. This was followed by the latest intel around the 6th anniversary celebration of Call of Duty: Mobile, heated competition in the Call of Duty Endowment (C.O.D.E.) Bowl VI, and more!

Get your rundown of Call of Duty: NEXT below and try out Multiplayer and Zombies Survival yourself during the Black Ops 7 Beta. The Black Ops 7 Beta begins for preorder players on October 2.

Black Ops 7 Multiplayer
To introduce Black Ops 7, hosts Miles Ross and Stephanie Snowden invited Matt Scronce, Yale Miller, and other developers from the team at Treyarch to talk about the Multiplayer maps, modes, and new features coming to the game. Throughout, we saw firsthand gameplay showing off six of the new maps, multiple modes (including the all-new Overload), and plenty of weapons, all of which will be playable in the Beta.

The game’s 2035 setting gave developers the chance to play with new tech while remaining grounded in the signature Black Ops style. Through discussions of map design, Loadouts, progression, movement changes, and more, players got the chance to see how Black Ops 7 incorporates fresh gameplay and fun near future elements across Multiplayer.

Map Design
The event’s first main focus was gameplay on six of the 18 launch maps coming to Black Ops 7 Multiplayer: Blackheart, Cortex, Exposure, Forge, Imprint, and Toshin. All six of the maps shown will be available to play in the Beta.

Treyarch’s vision for Multiplayer is to encourage fast, frenetic gameplay across vibrant maps designed in the classic Treyarch three-lane style with a deep connection to the narrative. To improve pacing, there are more standard-sized maps with opportunities for players to meet head on or push for the flank.
There are a wide variety of map locations featuring backstory-related connections, all coming to Multiplayer at launch. This includes covert Guild facilities in Japan, David Mason’s childhood cabin in the Alaskan wilderness, and a high-tech solar array in the Australian Outback.

Through matches of Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, and the brand-new Overload, viewers got a firsthand look at the maps on display, engaging in the tight cover-to-cover gameplay that’s core to Black Ops.

More at Launch: While the gameplay at Call of Duty: NEXT was focused on Core Multiplayer, the new 20v20 Skirmish mode was discussed, supported with two large maps at launch. Players can traverse these maps in rumbling and robust armored vehicles, more nimble ATVs, plus a grapple and a wing suit, adding new ways to navigate to your next objective.

New Game Mode: Overload
Alongside commentary from the developers and casters, players got their first look at the new Overload game mode coming to the Beta and available at launch.

In this mode, teams fight for control of the Overload Device, which they must pick up and carry into one of the enemy’s two control zones. The device’s position is shown via HUD and Tac-Map, and any Operator carrying it receives extra intel. The device changes hands throughout the match in an intense tug of war, rewarding the team who can claim the device and protect their carrier at all costs on their way to overload the enemy and win the match.

Players can get their hands on Overload plus Team Deathmatch, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, and Hardcore in the Beta, plus other surprises!

Next-Level Omnimovement
Black Ops 7 refines the Omnimovement system introduced in Black Ops 6, keeping the action fast and fluid while introducing the new Wall Jump ability and making movement speed adjustments to improve overall map pacing.

Wall Jump: Operators can now Wall Jump to propel over gaps and help reach higher surfaces. Players can chain Wall Jumps up to three times in a row, with each jump shortening the momentum and distance traveled. Certain maps feature deadly drops where Operators will need to wall jump to make it safely across, adding a new element of danger to the environment.

Optional Tac Sprint, Base Movement Speed: Tac Sprint has been removed by default, and all Operators will benefit from a higher base movement speed. Players who want to Tac Sprint can pick a Multiplayer Perk that gives that ability, and players can further customize their movement and firing options through updated Perks such as Lightweight, Dexterity, and Gung Ho.

New and Returning Gameplay Features
The developers talked about some of the most exciting gameplay features coming to Multiplayer, including:

Overclocks: The Overclock system brings a whole new level of customization to your Lethals, Tacticals, Field Upgrades, and Scorestreaks. Unlock Overclocks through repeated use of these items. Pick the upgrade that works best for your playstyle and switch between them at will to experiment with different approaches.

For example, the D.A.W.G. Scorestreak available in the Beta can be upgraded with a longer battery life to increase its active duration in the field or you can add a sentry mode that allows the D.A.W.G. to hunker down and guard an area.
Hybrid Combat Specialties: While players will still earn a Combat Specialty bonus for equipping three Perks from the same category, they can also activate new Hybrid Combat Specialties when equipping Perks from two different categories, encouraging selection of a wider variety of Perks.
Specialist Wildcard: Specialist makes its Black Ops debut in the form of a Wildcard. Equip Specialist to replace your Scorestreaks with three additional Perks on top of the ones you normally choose. Perks 4, 5, and 6 are earned like low-level Scorestreaks, at 200, 400, and 600 score. If you can reach 1,200 score, you’ll earn all remaining eligible Perks.

Classic Prestige: Classic Prestige returns in Black Ops 7! Players who reach Military Level 55 can choose to enter Prestige 1 and begin their Prestige journey. Climb through 10 Prestige Levels on the way to Prestige Master, unlocking Skins, Blueprints, and additional rewards along the way.

Deep Challenge & Reward Systems: The developers discussed all the different Challenge and Reward systems coming to Black Ops 7, including Classic and Weapon Prestige, Daily and Weekly Challenges, Seasonal Events, the Camo Mastery system, a Reward Feed to track all the content you’ve unlocked across sessions, and even the ability to reroll one Daily Challenge per day.

Weapons
Black Ops 7 is launching with 30 weapons, including 16 brand-new weapons seen for the very first time in Call of Duty as well as some Black Ops 2-inspired armaments tuned up with the latest advancements available in 2035. The developers talked about some of the weapons coming to the Beta and some new and updated features, such as shareable Weapon Builds, Weapon Prestige, and the Weapon Camo journey.

Share Weapon Builds: For the first time in Call of Duty, players will be able to share their Weapon Builds with friends and their communities. Send a created Build directly to your friend so they don’t have to create it themselves. Copy weapon codes from the killcam and from your favorite streamers and get right back to the action.
Weapon Prestige: Weapon Prestige returns to Call of Duty for the first time since Black Ops 4, with two Prestige levels per Weapon, followed by Weapon Prestige Master including 250 levels to grind through on the way to total Weapon mastery. Enter Weapon Prestige to unlock a unique Build-changing Prestige Attachment for each Weapon that can only be unlocked via Weapon Prestige. Players who Prestige their Weapons will also be able to unlock up to three unique Camos per Weapon, including many remasters of fan-favorite Camos from Black Ops 2.

Weapon Camos: Black Ops 7 has the most Mastery Camos ever seen in a Call of Duty: 16 total. Multiplayer, Zombies, and Call of Duty: Warzone (in Season 1) will all have Mastery Camos as you’d expect — but for the first time ever, Campaign players will have a Camo journey they can earn through by engaging with Co-Op Campaign Story Missions and Endgame. Additionally, players will have more access to unlocking Camos than ever in Black Ops 7 via Camo Rewards in Weapon Prestige and in Weekly Challenges and Seasonal Events starting in Season 1.

Black Ops 7 Zombies
Special guests Kevin Drew and Steve Bianchi of the Zombies team at Treyarch joined the presenters at Call of Duty: NEXT to reveal more information about Black Ops 7’s Zombies with an in-depth look at the meeting of the crews, the new Ashes of the Damned map, and the announcement of Survival maps, the first one of which will be playable in the Beta.

Meet the Crew
Following an epic battle on top of the Project Janus headquarters, the Black Ops 6 crew — Weaver, Grey, Carver, and Maya — is thrust into the Dark Aether where they meet up with new incarnations of the original crew: Dempsey, Nikolai, Takeo, and Richtofen.

Before the eight characters can be properly introduced, a sinister denizen of the Dark Aether approaches and drains the life force from the cast before exiting through a portal, leaving the drained crew to face the local undead population.

Get a closer look at the main characters of Black Ops 7 Zombies in this article

Ashes of the Damned
Ashes of the Damned will be the biggest Round-Based Zombies map in Black Ops history, and the players at Call of Duty: NEXT got to explore four of the six major locations, starting in Janus Towers Plaza and branching out to Blackwater Lake and Vandorn Farm before the path converged again in the ruins of the old Southern town known as Ashwood.

We got an in-depth look at the inner workings of the Dark Aether as players entered a purgatory of scattered places from other times and dimensions looming out of the fog. We got a closer look at the array of damned souls players will face off against in the map, including new enemies like the prowling Ravagers, Zursa apex predators, and a host of undead, from toughened foes clad in bone armor to the skeletal undead.

The Zombies team shared a closer look at the map and features launching with Black Ops 7, including info on the following:
Wonder Vehicle: Hop aboard Ol’ Tessie, the rusted pick-up truck that serves as the crew’s Wonder Vehicle, offering much needed transportation to get through the thick fog connecting the map’s disparate points of interest. Players will need to take care as Ol’ Tessie requires repairs after taking too much of a battering. Luckily, a series of upgrades can be found, increasing your team’s chances of survival with help from items like a mountable DG-2 turret and the assistance of none other than T.E.D.D.!
Wisp Tea (New Perk): Take a sip of the new Wisp Tea Perk to summon an ethereal companion after slaying enough zombies. Once summoned, the Wisp will momentarily attack nearby zombies until it needs to rest before being summoned again.

Fire Works (New Ammo Mod): Players will discover a returning Ammo Mod originally from Black Ops 3 in Ashes of the Damned. On weapons equipped with the Fire Works Ammo Mod, each bullet that hits a Normal or Special enemy has a chance to launch fireworks that target enemies, creating an explosive light show damaging foes within its vicinity.
New Wonder Weapon: Though not playable at Call of Duty: NEXT, the team did go into the upcoming Wonder Weapon coming at launch. In addition to the Ray Gun and Ray Gun Mark II Wonder Weapons, players will get the chance to wield the new Necrofluid Gauntlet, a fanged gauntlet of mysterious origin that’s deadly up close and from afar. Shoot forth powerful spikes that skewer targets at range and pull in items and Power-Ups from a distance.

New Mode: Cursed
Start with a pistol and your wits in this new mode designed for players looking for a more dangerous Zombies experience. Seek out Relics in the Dark Aether that administer debuff modifiers when activated. Keep digging to unlock more powerful Relics and earn special benefits and rewards along the way.

Survival Maps Return!
Fight back the undead until your last dying breath with the return of Survival maps! These maps bring staples like the Pack-a-Punch Machine, Mystery Box, and Der Wunderwizz to small environments with one goal: survive for as long as possible. More Survival maps will be added over the post-launch seasons, with Vandorn Farm being available to play in the Beta for a limited time.

Dead Ops Arcade 4
Dead Ops Arcade returns in Black Ops 7! This frantic twin-stick shooter began as an Easter Egg in the original Call of Duty: Black Ops, returning in its fourth iteration with gameplay for up to four players at a time featuring over 20 unique arenas and 80 levels of action.

Call of Duty: Warzone
The presenters then turned their attention to Call of Duty: Warzone, starting with an in-depth look at the new Haven’s Hollow Resurgence map. Players also got a preview of the new Signal Station and remastered Factory POIs coming to Verdansk.

The developers discussed some of the upcoming gameplay changes. As in Black Ops 7, there’s no default Tac Sprint, but all Operators’ baseline movement speed will be increased. Players can access enhanced movement with Perk options, such as the Combat Roll as part of the Mountaineer Perk and Tactical Sprint as part of the Sprinter Perk.
Overall, Perks have been shifted around and adjusted along with other changes to improve the gameplay experience. There is now a five-attachment limit on weapons and Wildcards are removed. They discussed the new Phantom Signal Tactical item along with other strategic tools like the Needle Drone and Psych Grenade. Players will find this equipment in ground loot which has been improved across the board to encourage looting and gearing up in the map.

These and other changes are all about keeping players engaged in Call of Duty: Warzone, including a deep Camo Challenge journey, new LTMs arriving in the post-launch seasons, seasonal ground loot changes, and more.

New Resurgence Map: Haven’s Hollow
Deploy to Haven’s Hollow, a small town on the river with an antique main street and industry in lumber and coal supported by its proximity to the mountains. In this new Resurgence map, players will battle through the rural setting from the riverfront to the foothills.
Main street is all old town charm with wall murals and buildings like the motel, hardware store, welcome center, comic book shop, farmer’s market, and a Western-themed coffee shop. On the riverfront, players can board the Haven’s Gamble paddle steamer, a red, white, and blue casino on the water dealing in slots and cards. If things get hot on deck, jump overboard and take a swim in the river.
Outside of town, head to Haven’s Lab, a state-of-the-art research center with an atrium and other modern amenities. Run down enemies on the trails around the Pond and hunter’s lodge, flank opponents through the wreckage of an abandoned train crash, find cover in the graveyard, explode the sprawling mansion overlooking the old town, gear up at the train station, and take in the once-idyllic autumn setting as you push on to the next objective, gearing up along the way.

Some of the main points of interest include:

  • Main Street
  • Train Station
  • Mansion
  • Homestead*
  • Pond
  • Research Center
  • Coal Depot
  • Lumbermill
  • Riverboat
(*different from the Black Ops 7 map of the same name)

Additional Points of Interest in Verdansk

In addition to the new Resurgence map, we were also treated to a preview of two additional POIs arriving in Verdansk during Season 1: Signal Station and Factory.

Signal Station
A brand-new complex situated in the north of Verdansk, close to Military Base in a remote, forested location built over a frozen lake, Signal Station is easily recognizable by its spherical white radars across the broadcast facility. Explore the massive control room with two floors of combat and the Tactical Heat Map feature that players can access after completing a special objective. Use the heatmap intel to get a temporary read on enemy whereabouts, helping to plan your squad’s next move.

Signal Station is designed for easy navigation, whether you’re on foot or driving a vehicle, giving players multiplayer pathways toward their objective. Ascend up to the control and server rooms or zipline straight over the helipad. Crawl through the vents and drop down on unsuspecting targets. Ambush enemies in the power facility. Signal Station brings the action no matter what your approach.

Factory
Follow the billowing smokestack to encounter the Factory POI — first seen in Verdansk ’84 — this sprawling industrial site is located near Superstore and now contains rockets that are being developed and stored. The main factory is supported by an intricate system of worksites, silos, warehouses, and other essential structures including a tower suited for sharpshooters looking to get above the action.

The dense cluster of buildings promises heaps of loot for squads who can make it out alive. Luckily, the design team has made it easy for players to plan their infils with each section being clearly identifiable from the air. Whether you plan on hitting up the main factory, the hangar, or the area’s long, flat roads, it’s an easy callout away to ensure that your squad sticks together when navigating this POI.

Team RICOCHET Update

Stronger protection against cheating in Black Ops 7:

On PC, the Black Ops 7 Beta will require both TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot to play. These protections make it harder for bad actors to load cheats before our gameplay begins. These new features, alongside our upcoming updates, raise the bar for security in PC gaming and give #TeamRICOCHET a stronger foundation to build on when Black Ops 7 officially launches.

TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot requirements, as well as the newest RICOCHET Anti-Cheat upgrades, will come online together at launch. This layered defense system blocks cheats at multiple levels and provides our most sophisticated protection yet. The cheating landscape is always evolving — and so are our defenses. If your system is not compliant, you won’t be able to play the Black Ops 7 Beta or Black Ops 7 at launch on PC. We want our community to be ready on Day One. To ensure a smooth transition, enable TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot now.
