Today on Twitch, Modiphius revealed new information and details on its campaign-oriented miniatures game, Fallout: Wasteland Warfare. First released in 2018, the must-anticipated second edition of the game is getting a large facelift after eight years of expansion releases. New products are expected to start being released Q3 and Q4 of 2026, including two new core sets: Into the Wasteland Solo Starter Solo and Warband Starter Set.

The newest edition focuses more on the solo play, with the driving factor being that it's meant for a player to play a little, leave, and then come back to. Players can create custom heroes, explore the wasteland, and build their settlement up between missions. This is all available in the co-operative version as well, the starter box for which will include more content.

New Starter Box Content

Regarding the miniatures, the newest edition will have multi-part, PVC resin minis, still at the 32mm scale, but at the 32mm heroic scale (larger heads and hands). The custom miniatures will have different options for heads and poses, giving the players more freedom and creative for their Vault Dweller survivor. The first multi-part kits will have four vault survivors, one all-male and one all-female, which includes the customizable equipment and weapons. Heroes will be available to add to your warband as companions.
Additionally, they have emphasized that old miniatures are still usable and viable with the new edition, so don't nuke them! New miniatures will be released, and Modiphius said they will release "as much as the pipeline will allow them." So, if you missed out on some of your favorite factions and characters, don't worry, there will be new versions of them coming soon!

Wasteland Warfare Mechanics Changes
The second edition will clean up and simplify many of the rules, including removing dice and tokens. Cards are going away, because, as pointed out on the stream, it's simply unfeasible to continually releases new cards and avoid confusing new and veteran players. The app will get an update, and it's not entirely clear how or if the 1st edition game will remain on the app. Once the new edition drops, the old card packs won't be available for purchase.
Another notable change is the reduction in the board size. The Modiphius team emphasized that this was due to testing and feedback from players and the community. Since the game is meant to be played over a series of days, reducing the board size allows it to be left up on a coffee table or other mobile flat surface, so that a player doesn't have to take down and set back up every single time.

Wasteland Warfare Roadmap
In addition to the new starter sets, more content is coming out beginning at the end of 2026 and going right into 2027, including the Wasteland Compendium, which will cover rules for exploring and playing in different locations like the Mojave and The Commonwealth. Warbands (including those alien Zetans!) will be covered in the compendium as well.

The team reiterated multiple times that Wasteland Warfare will continue to be its own, separate game from Fallout: Factions, the PvP skirmish game. While they did say there may be rules for minor PvP combat in Wasteland Warfare, they are heavily focusing on the narrative and campaign elements of the game to cater to those players and gaming communities who are looking at crafting a story in the Fallout universe.
Whether you are exploring solo, or battling the mutants with a friend, Fallout: Wasteland Warfare will continue to be a staple of the narrative miniature space.
