We've been awaiting more news for Archetype Entertainment's Exodus for a bit, and hopefully this is the start of the flood. The game many know as "sponsored by Matthew McConaughey" has looked incredible in it's showings, and the team is shedding more light on it. Narrative Director Drew Karpyshyn and Creative Director Jesse Sky stopped in to share more about the lore, gameplay details and more. You can read all about it – and watch the recent Q&A – below.

Archetype Entertainment is hard at work on its upcoming sci-fi action RPG EXODUS, and the team recently released a ton of new info, giving fans a deeper look inside its exhilarating world. Earlier this month, Archetype Entertainment dropped an exciting new Founders Q&A episode featuring Narrative Director Drew Karpyshyn and Creative Director Jesse Sky, packed with new lore, philosophical intrigue, and fresh gameplay details.
Here’s a quick summary of some of the most noteworthy new details:
Awakened Animals
Inspired in part by Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli, the Awakened are personified animals who reflect our emotional bonds and instincts.
An Awakened Companion has officially been confirmed for the first time. While players won’t control these beings, they’ll serve as important companions and supporting characters, while representing humanity’s refusal to leave behind what we love—even as we leave Earth. Just who is this mysterious companion? You’ll have to wait a bit longer to find out!
Game Endings
Time and consequences are at the core of EXODUS—your decisions carry weight, and some story outcomes may only be discovered by a select few.
Player choice is core to the experience, with meaningful decisions shaping the direction of the story and the fate of the world, along with an evolution to your connections to friends, family, and allies.
Celestials & Changelings
Celestials are advanced humans who have gone through thousands of years of evolution, branching into a multitude of specialized, highly-intelligent beings.
The Celestials also created the Changelings, genetically engineered creatures who function as workers and agents for unique tasks. Archetype has released a series of individual deep dives on Changelings this month. Here’s a quick recap of what has so far been released:
Malabrachts – Gilded Stewards of a Forgotten Throne - Elegant, mesmerizing, and hauntingly devoted, the Malabrachts are not conquerors—at least, not at first. Bred to prepare worlds for the return of long-lost masters, their arrival brings prosperity... until the cost becomes clear. They demand order.
Rexxana – Workers Turned Weapons - The Celestials’ go-to labor force was once the backbone of industry. Today, many Rexxana are discarded relics—or retooled as brutal foot soldiers. Their neural interfaces blur the line between life and machine, offering a chilling glimpse into a future where even consciousness can be engineered and replaced.
Arkavir – Survivors of the Impossible - Designed to endure the unendurable, the Arkavir are shapeshifting Changelings capable of surviving radiation, acid storms, and crushing gravity. They are mystery, muscle, and mirror—a symbol of how far the Celestials will go to reshape life to their will.
