Manhattan Beach, CA - June 10, 2025 – Pearl Abyss showcased a brand-new playable demo of Crimson Desert during the Summer Game Fest (SGF) held in Los Angeles, offering a fresh look at the game’s story and questline. Summer Game Fest, the largest mid-year hands-on gaming showcase in North America, invited global media and creators to preview upcoming titles and took place from June 7 to 9.
The new demo featured an early to mid-game questline, where players step into the middle of the battlefield and continue the main narrative. The early story follows Kliff, captain of the Greymanes, who, along with his comrades, falls into a trap set by their sworn enemies, the Drunken Black Bears. After a fierce battle, the team is scattered. Kliff sets off across the continent of Pywel in search of his companions, eventually heading toward Calphade upon hearing news of his trusted ally Oongka.
However, Calphade is under siege. Cassius Morten, once a loyal officer to Marquis Stefan Lanford of Calphade, has betrayed him and allied with the Drunken Black Bears in a violent rebellion. The region teeters on the brink of collapse.
The key feature of the demo is a large-scale, immersive battle that simulates the chaos of real warfare. Kliff fights with dozens of NPCs, with cannon fire overhead, battlefield cries, and environmental effects like smoke and fire delivering cinematic intensity.
The demo also offers a glimpse into a portion of Crimson Desert’s storyline. Key characters such as Oongka, Kliff’s Greymane companion; Barden Middler, a central figure in Calphade; and Cassius Morten, the traitor who betrayed Calphade, make appearances. Their stories are brought to life through high-quality cutscenes that deliver cinematic storytelling. As players progress through missions and the storyline, they encounter a variety of intense combat scenarios. Battles unfold across different parts of the battlefield, allowing players to engage enemies in their unique playstyles.
The continent of Pywel itself is another highlight of the demo. The natural landscapes and environments of Pywel are rendered in stunning detail with high-quality visuals, showcasing the game’s realistic and immersive world. Dynamic lighting and weather effects shift in real time as the day progresses, while distant mountain ranges and rocky cliffs further elevate the sense of immersion. All visuals were built using Pearl Abyss’ propietary BlackSpace Engine, delivering a highly realistic and immersive world.
Pearl Abyss plans to expand global demo opportunities for fans eagerly awaiting Crimson Desert. The game will be released in late 2025 on Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Mac.
