Netflix acquires the rights to Ticket to Ride

Netflix punches its “Ticket to Ride” with global wide-ranging deal on board game phenomenon.

Netflix acquires the rights to Ticket to Ride

Board games continue to become more mainstream as other companies see the entertainment benefits of popular board games. Netflix now has the rights to make film and television with Ticket to Ride, one of the most popular evergreen games:

Following its recent acquisition of adaptation rights to another Asmodee hit, CATAN®, Netflix is expanding its commitment to board game storytelling with a new agreement securing exclusive global rights to adapt the acclaimed board game Ticket to Ride®.

The deal encompasses scripted and unscripted projects across feature film, television series, and additional formats, marking the first on-screen adaptation of the beloved tabletop franchise.

The first project developed under the agreement will be a feature film written by Ben Mekler and Chris Amick. Producers include Darren Kyman for Asmodee; Eric Tannenbaum and Kim Tannenbaum for The Tannenbaum Company; and Jonathan Levine and Gillian Bohrer for Megamix.

Ticket to Ride has become a global pop culture staple, with more than 20 million copies sold and translations in over 30 languages. For more than two decades, its accessibility, expansive collection of maps and variations, and distinctive blend of strategy, route-building, and excitement—enhanced by the tactile joy of placing miniature train pieces on the board—have brought players of all ages together around the world.

“Just when I thought life couldn’t get more exciting, Ticket to Ride is teaming up with Netflix,” said Alan R. Moon, creator of the game. “I can’t wait to help bring these exciting projects to the millions of fans of the game.”

Moon will serve as executive producer on behalf of Asmodee.

The project joins Netflix’s growing slate of game-to-screen adaptations, including Arcane, Castlevania, Family Pack (The Werewolves of Miller’s Hollow), Exploding Kittens, the upcoming Assassin’s Creed series, the Monopoly reality competition series, and the Gears of War film.

This agreement further advances Asmodee’s strategy to expand the reach of its tabletop intellectual properties—from gaming tables worldwide to millions of screens.

The deal was negotiated by CAA and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher on behalf of Asmodee.
