Currently crowdfunding on Gamefound until February 4th, Malediction looks to empower the players to 3D-print their own miniatures:
Loot Studios, a subscription service providing 3D-printable model files, today announced the release of its first-ever published game, Malediction. As of today, the game is available for purchase on Gamefound until Tuesday, February 4th. Malediction will then be available online and at select retailers thereafter.
Developed over the course of three years by a team of expert artists, game designers and writers, Malediction is a hybrid miniatures-based card game (MCG) that combines the strategy of tabletop games and the customization of trading card games. The game is the first-ever miniatures based card game to leverage customizable, 3D-printed minis, which are developed specific to Malediction by Loot Studios. As part of the launch, Loot Studios has partnered with Cartamundi, a global leader in playing cards known for manufacturing games like Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon and Monopoly, to manufacture the cards for Malediction.
To develop the rich lore behind Malediction, Loot Studios collaborated with New York Times bestselling fantasy author Tracy Hickman. With over 60 books to his name – including the original Dragonlance novels – Hickman is a legend in fantasy storytelling. During his time at TSR, he was instrumental in shaping the Dungeons & Dragons module portfolio, helping author iconic adventures like Rahasia, Pharaoh and Ravenloft.
“It’s been an immense pleasure to work alongside Loot Studios and the team at Malediction to build out the lore and story behind the game,” Hickman said. “The ability to bring deep storytelling to life with incredible art is only possible working alongside a company like Loot. Their presence in the RPG space is unmatched, and I believe the community is going to discover something truly special with Malediction.”
The game takes place in Angar, an ancient world where players become Seekers, leading their warbands through a hostile region called The Malediction in search of powerful, long-lost relics. To win, players must battle opposing factions and other challengers to claim dormant relics scattered across the battlefield. With customizable decks and dynamic terrain configurations, no two games are ever the same.
“We’ve always been passionate about helping the tabletop community bring games to life through visualization, and that passion inspired us to create something that matches the creativity that players express in every single game they play,” Loot Studios Co-Founder and Art Director Alvaro Ribeiro said. “Our expertise in 3D modeling and .STL services will allow us to introduce an entirely new style of tabletop gaming and enable worldbuilding at a pace that’s never been seen before.”
Malediction supports both 1v1 and 2v2 matches and features four unique factions: the Primal Blood, Order of the Shattered Throne, Conclave of Spheres and the Legion of the Fallen. During the 15-day campaign on Gamefound, boxes will be available for $69.99. During the widespread launch, boxes will be available for $79.99.Players can build and expand their armies and deck using the starter pack included in each box, with additional expansion packs planned for release post-launch. A tabletop simulator mod will also be available for Malediction upon launch,
Malediction will be available on Gamefound starting January 20, 2025 and select retailers thereafter. Visit malediction.gg to learn more.
