There was a LOT to be excited about in this State of Play, but as my team can tell you, I only had one game on my mind — Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. Well, the rumors and leaks are absolutely true, and it turns out we’ve not got long to wait to experience one of the very best games to grace the PlayStation, Dreamcast, eventually PlayStation Portable, a classic emulator cart we all just heard about recently. Thankfully, the remaster team at Aspyr wasn’t just planning to kick out that same version, instead bringing the game to new platforms, instead giving it a gorgeous new coat of paint, higher-resolution textures, remastered special effects, a thankfully-retouched camera and control system, and so much more. Let’s get into it!
Celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original Legacy of Kain™: Soul Reaver with Legacy of Kain™: Soul Reaver 1-2 Remastered. Immerse yourself in a timeless story of vampires, betrayal and revenge as you traverse the hauntingly beautiful land of Nosgoth in higher fidelity than ever before. Experience these epic adventures your way, with the ability to toggle on-the-fly between the games’ original visuals and remastered graphics, as well as switch between a new modern control scheme and classic controls.

- NEW! Bonus Materials: Explore an interactive lore map, view never-before-seen concept art, and delve into environments from the fabled “Lost Levels.”
- Legacy of Kain™: Soul Reaver 1-2 Remastered releases on Dec. 10, 2024, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam. Pre-order before launch for 10% off on PlayStation and PC!
That second-to-last bullet has a few of us very interested. There was a tremendous amount cut, including many of Raziel’s brethren, several entire locations (hence the Lost Worlds map), Turel’s clan territory, additional forges, the Silenced Cathedral, a flooded undercity zone, Kain’s Mountain Retreat, an additional Sarafan tomb, additional abilities like Possession, more Reaver types (Spectral, material, sunlight, water, fire, stone, spirit, sound, just to name a few!), an amplified force projectile, and more. Arguably there are three major unreleased versions of the game out there in the big wide world, and so much of it remains shrouded in mystery to this day.
When Kain said “There is much more for you to unearth, if you have the heart for the truth, and the will to see it” and I’m eager to see if Aspyr is doing exactly that. Between this and the Kickstarter, could long-time fans like myself finally get our wish? Could a new Soul Reaver game be somewhere on the horizon? It’s too much to even dare to hope…but hope I shall.
We won’t have to wait much longer — Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1-2 Remastered will launch on December 10th, 2024, on PC, PlayStation and Xbox (Nintendo Switch coming soon…) with a 10% discount on PlayStation Plus and PC until the official launch. Enjoy these magnificent screenshots while we very, very impatiently wait.
