Get to know your companions in Octopath Traveler 0

Today, Square Enix released new details for Octopath Traveler 0, this time focusing on party members the player can recruit on their journey.

In Octopath Traveler 0, you play as a traveler seeking revenge after your village is destroyed by three powerful individuals searching for the divine rings. Using one of these rings, you travel around the continent to take revenge and restore your home, finding new allies along the way. Some of these characters will join you in your quest and aid in battle with their unique jobs and abilities.

One of these characters is Delita, a Hunter who grew up in the deserts of the Sunlands. She takes great pride in her clan and wears a traditional outfit. She's searching for her older brother, who is set to be the next clan leader. Her Unique Technique is called Gift of the Aqeeq, which lowers physical attack and defense for all foes and raises them for all allies.

There's also Esperre, the Apothecary who set off on a journey to save as many lives as possible. His father is an accomplished apothecary, and he wants to live up to that legacy. His Technique, Art of Healing, will remove any attribute-reducing effects for all allies and grant them an immunity to status ailments for several turns.

Finally for this batch of friends, we have Goodwin, a Dancer. He's a playwright and actor looking for fantastical stories of adventure. He was driven out of the city of the arts due to artistic differences, and attempted to put on performances at sea... only to find himself shipwrecked. This hasn't stopped him though, and he's taken on the name of Shipwreck King. His Song of Levin Ultimate Technique deals lightning damage to all foes, then deals lightning damage to all foes again for two turns.

Players will also be able to encounter the eight heroes of the original Octopath Traveler: Ophilia, Cyrus, Tressa, Olberic, Primrose, Alfyn, Therion, and H'aanit. You'll also be able to chat with your companions in certain situations through Party Chat. The conditions for unlocking these conversations may be very specific, but if you've met the criteria and missed it you can still view them at any time in the main menu.

Getting closer with your allies doesn't just unlock new dialogue, however. Developing your town to a certain level will unlock Amity Levels. You can raise Amity by getting to know your companions and using the Inquire Further Path Action on them in Wishvale. Higher Amity Levels will allow you to obtain more valuable items, so be sure to spend some quality time with your friends.

What are Path Actions? These are abilities you acquire by raising your influence and values in three areas: wealth, power, and fame. Those who value wealth can Purchase items from NPCs or even Hire them, if you prefer power you can Contend or Impress someone through combat, and famous people can Entreat or Recruit if they fancy. Taking these actions will influence your values, but there's no reason you can't level all of them.

At a certain point in the game, you'll unlock a ship and be able to sail the vast ocean. You can explore the Middlesea and the Outersea, landing on uncharted islands and facing unknown creatures. Once you hit the waves, where you go is up to you.

If you're itching to get your hands on the game and its soundtrack, you're in luck as a Prologue Demo is out now on all major platforms. The soundtrack you'll have to wait a bit for, but a 2-Disc CD Set ($35.99) will release next month, complete with a booklet featuring a special roundtable discussion about behind-the-scenes stories with Yasunori Nishiki and the music production staff.
